How to Make Money in an Hour
If you need money now, give these options a try…
1. Donate Plasma
Donating plasma for money is something pretty much anyone (barring certain medical conditions) can do.
The process of donating plasma is called plasmapheresis.
Plasma is a component of your blood that makes up around 55% of your total blood volume.
Because plasma cannot be manufactured, companies are willing to pay for it. Plasma is used to make medications and for other medical purposes. When you donate plasma, the whole blood is taken, and the plasma is separated from the rest of the blood and stored.
The rest of your blood is re-infused into your body.
A few places where you can get paid to donate plasma include:
The whole process of donating plasma is longer than just giving blood, and you can expect it to take around 90 minutes. On your first visit to the center, the whole process is likely to take about 2 hours. So, this can be a good way to make money in just a couple of hours.
Pay varies since each place has its own pay rate. Generally, you can make $280 to $400 a month. You can donate twice a week.
2. Be a Mover with Bellhops
With Bellhops, you can get paid to help people move, and you can earn up to $21 an hour, including tips and bonuses.

There are two well-known rideshare companies:

Lyft drivers earn between $3 and $43 an hour, with the average income being $16 an hour.

You could easily make money in just an hour as a freelance writer. The average pay for freelancers is $23 an hour, but it can range anywhere from $12 to $58 an hour.

24. Dog walker
Next, we have a job that anyone can get started with, and if you’re thinking, “how can I make cash fast today?”, it’s the perfect job for you. That is dog walking.
Yes, since many people are so busy with work, they don’t always have the time to walk their pets. Instead, they hire a dog walker to do it for them.
This means that you could get paid to walk adorable dogs.
Here’s where you can find dog walking jobs:
Dog walkers can earn anywhere from $10 to $29 an hour, with the average income being $14 an hour.
25. Return a recent purchase
If you’re thinking, “I need money right now,” then consider returning an item you’ve recently purchased.
Have a think. Perhaps you purchased a new item of clothing or a games console that you could get a refund for. The item will need to be in good condition, of course, for you to get your money back.
If you’ve spent money on something you may not need, then do consider taking it back to the store to get some quick cash.
And considering that many stores now offer free returns, it’s an easy way to get some cash quickly.
26. Test search engines
Want to earn up to $49 in just an hour?
By testing search engines, you can! You know when you type in a word or phrase into Google, and a bunch of results appears? Well, those results are generated by the search engine’s algorithm.
To make sure that the right results are generated, search engines, like Google and Bing, hire search engine evaluators.
So, basically, you’ll need to enter specific words or phrases and check to see if the right results appear.
Here’s where you can find search engine evaluator jobs:
With this gig, you’ll make anywhere from $10 to $49 an hour, and the average income is $26 an hour.

I remember finding a scratch-off in a drawer that turned out to have $10 on it. I had received it as a Christmas gift and simply put it in a drawer, forgetting about it. Anyway, I happened to scratch it off one day, and lo and behold, it was a winner. It’s just $10, but it’s still cash I didn’t know I had.
That’s why I’d recommend checking any scratch-off tickets you have lying around.
29. Test websites with UserTesting
Get paid to test out websites with UserTesting. My husband has actually done some work with UserTesting and has found it to be good so far. Testing opportunities don’t pop up that often. However, when they do, he earns $10 in less than 20 minutes. It’s a nice way to bring in a little extra income.
Payment is sent 7 days after the test is completed, and you’re paid directly to your PayPal account.
- Get started with UserTesting here.
30. Do some proofreading and editing work
Proofreading and editing are great options for anyone wondering how to make money from home.
As a proofreader or editor, your job is to check work, such as books and blog posts, for spelling mistakes, typos, and grammatical errors. Editors also review structural elements.

Plus, there are plenty of other sites where you’ll find work editing and proofreading, such as:
Expect to earn from $12 to $30 an hour as a proofreader, with the average income being $18 an hour.

31. Craigslist Gigs
For some quick-paying gigs, try out Craigslist. Years ago, I found some freelance writing work there, and it was legit.
The platform has lots of gigs you can do to make money in an hour or so, from freelance graphic design work to furniture assembly.
Just go to the “Jobs” section of your city’s Craigslist, and you’ll be able to browse job openings.
Jobs are separated by category, such as writing/editing and general labor, which is pretty handy, right?
You can also find tons of under-the-table jobs that pay cash!
Make sure you watch out for scams. For example, don’t pay to apply for or to do a job, or provide any personal information like your credit card details.
Pay varies from gig to gig, but you can easily make some fast cash.
- Find gigs on Craigslist here.
32. Cut grass for your neighbors
Someone in your neighborhood likely needs their lawn mowed but doesn’t want to do it themselves or perhaps doesn’t have the time to do it.
That’s why offering a grass-cutting service near you can be a good way to bring in some money quickly.
When you need money ASAP, ask around your neighborhood to see if anyone wants their lawn mowed.
You could even upload a post advertising your services on neighborhood Facebook groups. Since you can ask for payment right after the job is complete, you’ll have the cash that same day.
33. Deliver food
Earn money today by delivering food from restaurants and other eateries.
Rideshare driving isn’t for everyone because it requires having strangers in your car. That’s why food delivery can be a good alternative. You drop off people’s food orders at their homes.
Here are a few places where you can find food delivery jobs:
Your income depends on the number of deliveries you make and the company you’re working for.
Here are some examples:
- Drivers with UberEats earn $15 an hour on average, with pay ranging from $12 to $17 an hour.
- With DoorDash, you’re paid a base pay of between $2 and $10 for each delivery you complete.
- You’ll earn up to $25 an hour with Caviar. Plus, you get to keep all of your tips.
34. Negotiate your bills
My husband uses this tip all the time and has had great success with it!
When the cell service in our area went down for months, my husband contacted the cell phone provider a few times to complain. The customer service agent he spoke with gave him 3 months’ worth of service for free.
In less than an hour, he was able to save more than $100. Get in touch with service providers and see if you can negotiate your bills. Often, companies offer the best deals to new customers because they want to attract more paying customers.
Take a look at what promotions your service provider is offering to new customers. Then, call and ask for a better deal. Mention those incentives for new customers, and ask if they can provide you, a loyal customer, with something similar. If they can’t, consider switching services.
35. Sell scrap metal
You’re thinking, “I need money overnight. What can I do?”
Surprisingly, the solution may be sitting in your garage.
That solution is scrap metal. Copper, iron, steel, aluminum, and other scrap metals can all be sold to bring in some quick cash.
While you might not get a huge amount of money from this, most places pay quickly.
36. Shop for and deliver groceries
Earn up to $25 in just an hour when you shop for and deliver groceries. This is a good way to earn some money fast.
You likely visit the grocery store anyway, right? So why not make some extra cash while you’re there?
Here are a couple of places that pay you to deliver groceries:
Shipt pays from $16 to $22 an hour.
Instacart pays $14 an hour on average, with pay ranging from $5 to $25 an hour.
If you want to get paid fast, Instacart is great because you can cash out your earnings every day using the site’s Instant Cashout feature, or you can opt to get paid weekly.

Make up to $20 in just an hour with cleaning work. Lots of people need their homes cleaned, right? People are busy and just don’t have the time to do it themselves. This is where you could make some extra money.
You could find cleaning work on Housekeeper.com.
Or, you could spread the word locally about your services and advertise on places like Facebook or in the local paper.
Cleaners earn from $9 to $20 an hour, with the average pay being $12 an hour.
38. Get instant cash from your receipts with Ibotta
Another option to try is Ibotta. This app gives you rebates just for buying stuff at the grocery store. For earning a little extra cash quickly, it’s certainly a good option.
All you need to do is browse offers, purchase the items featured in those offers, and upload a photo of your receipt as proof of purchase.
You’ll often see rebates from $1 to $3 or more. So, you can easily make a bit of money just for doing something you would normally do anyway.
Once you reach the $20 threshold, you can withdraw your earnings to your PayPal account, and the cash will be in your account in as little as 2 hours! It can take up to 24 hours during high traffic times.
- Visit the Ibotta website here.
Here’s where you can get the Ibotta app:

43. Cancel subscriptions (there’s probably at least one you’ve forgotten about!)
You’d be surprised at how many subscriptions people have that they have simply forgotten about. I do it too—I sign up for something and then forget to cancel it. For example, I got a duo account on Spotify so my mom could use my account too, but she never set it up and I forgot to cancel it. I ended up spending $100 on something I didn’t even use anymore. I did the same thing with an Xbox GamePass subscription. It’s so easy to forget that we’re still paying for a service month after month.
Check your bank statements for any recurring subscriptions and cancel the ones you no longer use. You can likely do this in less than an hour. You could end up with hundreds of dollars extra in your account just by doing a little cleanup of your unwanted subscriptions.
44. Get refunds with Price Protection (Formerly Paribus)
If you want money fast, I highly recommend using a tool from Capital One Shopping called Price Protection, formerly known as Paribus. Paribus is now part of Capital One Shopping.
Price Protection is a tool that automatically checks for refunds. For anyone who shops online, this is a must-have. Price Protection identifies recent (past 30 days) purchases based on shipping and order confirmation emails found in your mailbox.
It continuously monitors and compares price changes for these items in real time. Once an eligible claim is detected, Price Protection will contact the retailer on your behalf and file a claim requesting a refund, or it will provide you with straightforward instructions on how to get a refund yourself.
You’ll get a refund for the difference between the price you paid and the lower price. This refund will be credited directly to the original form of payment, or you’ll be provided with the equivalent amount in store credit.
This is such an easy way to get some money back into your bank account.
- Get started with Price Protection from Capital One Shopping here.

Here’s where you can find work:
47. Bottle redemption
There are lots of ways to get cash in just an hour, and one that you might not expect can be found right in your recycling box.
Yes, if you normally recycle your plastic or glass bottles, you could be wasting cash.
You can make money from these bottles instead by taking them to a bottle redemption center.
This can be such an easy way to get money in just an hour or so. Now, you will need to check if your state has can and bottle deposit laws, since not all states do, unfortunately.
There are ten states that have bottle redemption laws:
- California
- Connecticut
- Hawaii
- Iowa
- Maine
- Massachusetts
- Michigan
- New York
- Oregon
- Vermont
You’ll need to find a place to redeem your bottles for cash. A few good places to return bottles include grocery stores, gas stations, convenience stores, and, of course, redemption centers.
I actually have a post on redeeming bottles for cash, which includes tips on how to find a redemption center near you and tips on getting more bottles to redeem. Have a read of Make Money with Bottle Redemption: The Complete Guide to learn more.
How much money you make from returning bottles and other containers varies from state to state.
Here’s how much you could get depending on your state:
- California: 5¢ for containers that are less than 24 oz. and 10¢ for containers that are 24 oz. or greater.
- Connecticut: 5¢

How can I make $100 an hour?
Making $100 an hour is a pretty high amount. Aside from getting a job with that salary, this can be tough to achieve, although not impossible.
Freelance writing is definitely an option for earning a lot per hour. If you get paid per word and can write quickly, then you may be able to earn $100 an hour.
Other types of freelance work can also pay well, so I recommend checking freelance sites like:
- UpWork
- Fiverr
- PeoplePerHour
You’re unlikely to earn $100 an hour when you’re just starting out as a freelancer, but eventually, you could reach that income level.
Other options for earning $100 in just an hour include:
- Selling courses on Udemy
- Publishing books on Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP)
- Running a blog that gets a lot of traffic
Please keep in mind that all of these options require a lot of upfront work, and you’ll need to direct traffic to whatever it is you’re promoting, whether that’s a book you’re selling on Amazon or your blog, to start making money.
