1. Receipt Hog
One of the best apps that allows you to get paid to upload receipts is Receipt Hog which we reviewed here.
With this app, you simply take a picture of your receipt and get money.
The app has three categories for receipts:
- Coin-receipts: You earn coins for your receipts that you can redeem for cash. Receipts that fall into this category are normally those from retailers that sell consumable goods, like grocery stores and supermarkets.
- Spin-receipts: Receipts that fall into this category are usually those from retailers that sell non-consumable goods, like apparel. For each spin-receipt, you earn one spin on the Hog Slot machine. When you play this game, you have the chance to win coins you can redeem for money.
- Sweeps-receipts: These receipts give you an entry into Receipt Hog’s monthly sweepstakes, where you can win up to 5,000 coins. While all receipts give you an entry into the sweepstakes, receipts that solely earn entries are ones from places like bars and gas stations.
Receipt Hog pays you pretty well – receipts can be redeemed for cash or for Amazon gift cards. Or, if you’re an avid reader, you might want to choose the magazine subscription option.
Receipt Hog also gives you the opportunity to complete surveys if you want to.
The only downside with this app is that there’s a wait list.

Final Thoughts
As you can see, there are so many apps out there that allow you to earn money just by taking a photo of your receipt or simply scanning a barcode.
But, you might be wondering what the apps get out of your receipts.
Well, it’s simple really…
Some apps simply partner with brands by providing rebates, but many, like Receipt Hog, for example, use your receipts to gather consumer data, which they then sell to companies.
Your data is usually kept anonymous.
Using these apps offers you a simple way to make money from something that would, normally, go straight in the trash – your receipts!
So, next time you visit the grocery store, fill up the tank at the gas station or have a drink at a local bar, café or restaurant, keep your receipt and earn yourself some extra spending money.
Esthy
I totally agree; scanning receipts is indeed one of the easiest ways to make quick cash. It is as simple as swapping your trash for cash. Unfortunately, besides Receipt Hog, Shopmium and Ibotta most of these apps are not available in the UK, which limits one’s ability to make more money.
