Everyone buys things. It’s one of the facts of life. We sleep, we breathe, we go down to the store to get the week’s groceries. So what if you could get rewarded for doing what you were going to do anyway?
What if you could get paid to shop?
Scan your receipts! Earn money! Help the environment!

What will I learn?

- Discover
- and My Brands
Not sure what to get? The Discover section is probably where you want to go first. Here, you can find new brands that are good for you and are applicable to earn rewards on.
The My Brands section is for items you’ve already discovered. Like what you got before? Find it again here!
They have for both Android and iOS devices. You can download the app for your device from the App Store or Google Play.
Why does this app pay you?
Makeena is partnered with organic brands to reward its users for brand loyalty and providing market data.
Simply put, the app pays you to encourage you to buy organic and to help organic brands learn more about their customers.
How Much Can I Earn?
How much you earn depends on how much you shop! Obviously, this won’t be a second income, but you can use it to offset the cost of buying healthy foods.
Every 1,000 points you earn gets you $1, and there’s a $20 minimum to redeem what you’ve earned.
You can earn points in all sorts of ways, like doing tasks for specific brands, buying organic produce, and redeeming other product offers.
You can earn money by referring friends to Makeena. You get a $1 bonus for each person you refer to. Then, every time they make a purchase and submit a receipt, you’ll get brand points.
Features of the App
Makeena isn’t just a receipt scanning app. It has a number of other cool features too.

The Discover tab, as mentioned previously, can help to introduce you to cool new healthy products that you may not have heard of before. You can even earn points by favoriting them!
It also touts a store locator feature, which can help you find store locations where you can find the products you want. No more scouring stores for what you want!
Another useful thing about Makeena is that it stores the receipts you’ve scanned, so you can go back through them whenever you want.

Makeena App Reviews & Rating
Makeena has no accreditation with the Better Business Bureau. Despite this, the organization does give the app’s company an A+ rating, based on its performance. It’s had a grand total of one complaint through the BBB in the last three years, and it has been closed out.
Some users on Reddit have positive things to say about the app:
“Makeena is a super cool new app (it’s available on the App Store and on Google Play). Love buying better for you products manufactured by mission-driven brands. Customer service is excellent. Quick to respond,” said this Reddit user.
“Try Makeena. I see 25-59 cents back on apples, spinach, bananas, and tomatoes, among other things. They also have rebates for branded healthier and sustainable products, like bean Tortilla chips, Zetia, and Tom’s of Maine,” said another Reddit user.
Advantages of Using It
This app is an up-and-comer with a lot in its favor. For those of you who haven’t been keeping track, they are:
- It’s compatible with both PayPal and Venmo.
- It gives you rebates whenever you buy any kind of fresh produce.
- You can combine your savings with coupons to save even more money!
- Makeena also supports online shopping.
- The app works when you shop at any store, not just specific locations like other apps.
Disadvantages of Using It
- The minimum payout is at 20,000 points, which can take a while to get to.
- Each brand tracks points separately, so you have to finish out their requirements to cash out.
- Some users have reported that the camera function is incompatible with their phones.
- It can take some time to cash out. Most users report less than 24 hours, but others have claimed it has taken them a week or more.
So is Makeena Worth It?
In all honesty, it’s hard to say no to receipt scanning apps. It takes only a few seconds to scan your receipt and earn money for something you were already going to do anyway. When you also consider the fact that it’s easy to do multiple apps for just one trip, it seems more than worth it to me!
