When most people think of tipped jobs, being a waiter or waitress comes to mind. While that is a great option, it’s not the only one out there.
In fact, you can earn tips in many industries.
In today’s post, I’ll cover some of the easiest jobs that give tips.
Tip jobs are no longer just for jobs for 15 year olds to make money in the summer. Working a job where you’re tipped can mean that you can consistently make good money!
This is especially true if you live in a state where employers are required by law to pay their staff minimum wage BEFORE tips.

States that require employers to pay full state minimum wage before tips
Some states require employers to pay tipped employees full state minimum wage BEFORE tips.
This means that not only are you paid a fair wage, but you can also supplement your income through tips. So you could end up making way over your hourly wage!
Now, states and territories that pay full minimum wage before tips include:
- American Samoa
- Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands
If you don’t live in one of these areas, you still can make a lot of cash from tips alone.
Jobs that Give Tips
Below, I provide a list of some of the best jobs with tips. With these jobs, tipping is pretty common. This doesn’t mean that every customer will tip you. Sadly, not everybody is generous. Do a good job though and most people will be happy to provide you with tips for your service.
Before we get started on the list, I just wanted to say that while the income figures may have been accurate at the time of writing, they may have changed by the time that you come to read this post.
Also, how much money you earn per hour and the tips you get can vary depending on where you live and the type of place you work for.
For example, you may earn more money per hour in a restaurant in NYC than you would in a restaurant in a small town. So do keep that in mind.

Now that’s out of the way, let’s get on with the list…
- Earn up to: $20 an hour + 15% to 20% tips
Being a waiter or waitress is a good way to earn tips. And most people can get into this field with little experience or qualifications. Since tipping workers in the foodservice industry is such a common practice, working as a waiter or waitress is probably the most sure-fire way to get tips!
The average median hourly wage for waiters and waitresses is around $11. But the lowest 10% earned less than $8.42 and the highest 10 percent earn more than $20.46.
Waiters can earn from 15% to 20% in tips. So if you have a big group who spend a lot, you could potentially earn $100s in tips each shift. And if you work in high-end places, then you have the potential to earn even more!
2. Rideshare driver
- Earn up to: $43 an hour + 10% to 20% tips
If you don’t mind giving people lifts, then consider working as a rideshare driver. You make money by providing a taxi service to people using your own car.
Here’s where you can make money as a rideshare driver:
Uber drivers make $3 to $35 an hour with the average income being $15 an hour.
Lyft drivers make $3 to $43 an hour with the average income being $16 an hour.
3. Lawn mower
- Earn up to: $23 an hour + 10% tips
Consider mowing people’s lawns as this is another job that offers tips. It allows you to make money doing something that gets you outdoors. Not to mention, if you are looking for under the table jobs that pay cash, this is a good one!
Plus, pretty much anyone with a lawnmower can get started with this one!
You can ask around your neighborhood to see if anyone needs a lawn moving service. Or you could advertise your serves on neighborhood Facebook groups or on Craigslist. You can even find some clients who need their lawns cutting regularly.
The average hourly wage for lawn moving in the USA is $20, but income can fall anywhere between $17 and $23 an hour. But you can set your own rates for your services.

Next on the list we have babysitting. This can be a good way to make money since there are always parents out there who’re looking for a sitter. You can advertise your services in your local area. Or you could search online for babysitting jobs.

5. Food delivery
- Earn up to: $25 an hour + 10% to 20% tips
Delivering food is a great alternative to driving for Uber because you don’t need to have a stranger in your car. Instead, you earn money picking up food from restaurants, fast food places, and other eateries, and delivering it to people’s homes.
It’s a good way to earn some extra cash on the side too if you’re looking to supplement your regular income.

Pay varies depending on the number of deliveries you make and the company you work with.
- UberEats pays from $12 to $17 an hour with the average income being $15 an hour.
- DoorDash pays you a base pay of anywhere from $2 to $10 for each delivery that you make.

- Earn up to $25 an hour with Postmates.
6. Dog walker
- Earn up to: $29 an hour + 10% to 20% tips
Why not try working as a dog walker? If you love animals, then this could be a great option for you. You could advertise your services to pet owners nearby or on sites like Craigslist.

The average hourly pay for dog walkers is $14. Pay, however, can range from $10 to $29 an hour.

One tip job that you might want to try is cleaning. Since many people are too busy to clean their own homes, they hire a cleaner to do it for them.
Cleaners are always in demand, so this can be a good job to try.

Helping people to move is a good way to make an income. And it’s a job that comes along with tips.

9. Errand runner
- Earn up to: $78 an hour + up to 30% tips
People are busy so they often hire people to run their errands for them. With TaskRabbit, you could earn money helping people with their everyday to-dos. This can include things like picking up the dry cleaning, assembling furniture, yard work, or running to the store to pick up some groceries.
And one of the most popular apps that provide gig economy jobs is TaskRabbit. When you work with TaskRabbit, you’re called a Tasker. And basically, you get paid to help people with their errands. Pay on TaskRabbit can range from $3 to $78 an hour with the average pay being $26 an hour. It’s a good job for getting tips as you can earn up to 30% in tips!

10. Grocery shopping and delivery
- Earn up to: $25 an hour + 5% to 20% tips
Another option to try is shopping for and delivering groceries. Basically, customers place grocery orders and you shop for their groceries and deliver them to the customer’s home.
Here are a couple of places where you can find work shopping for and delivering people’s groceries:
How much money you earn depends on how many deliveries you make and the company you work with. You can earn from $16 to $22 an hour with Shipt. With Instacart, you can earn from $5 to $25 an hour with the average pay being $14 an hour.

As a doorman, you offer security and greet residents and guests who pass by your door. Doormen usually work in places like luxury hotels or residential condominiums.

Doormen earn anywhere from $12 to $24 an hour with the average wage being $17 an hour.
12. Golf Caddie
- Earn up to: $41 an hour + $40 to $50 tip per player
Being a golf caddie is another tipped job. Golf caddies help golfers to carry their equipment, and more experienced caddies even provide advice on the course.
Golf caddies can earn anywhere from $7 to $41 an hour with the average wage being $19 an hour.

13. Dog Groomer
- Earn up to: $28 an hour + 15% to 20% tips.
You could also consider working as a dog groomer. Many pet owners require a groomer, so this can be a good way to make money.
You’ll generally need to have completed a dog grooming apprenticeship, which can take anywhere from 6 to 10 weeks, to get started with this career. But, the requirements for getting a job as a dog groomer vary from employer to employer.

The average hourly wage for dog groomers is $16. Pay can range from $7 to $28 an hour though.

Next on the list we have bartending work. Working as a bartender can be a great way to get lots of tips. After all, people are often more generous when they have been drinking!

The average hourly wage for bartenders in the United States is $11. Pay can fall anywhere between $9 and $13 an hour though. Bartenders earn 20% of the tab, or they can get paid about $1 a drink or in nicer bars, $2 per drink.

Being a disc jockey is a super fun job, and you can get tips too! If you have an ear for music, then this could be the career for you. You can work at events like weddings!

DJs can earn anywhere from $11 to $147 an hour with the average pay being $48.

Barbers are another tipped profession.

If you are interested in this profession, you will need to complete a barber program or cosmetology apprenticeship. And, you’ll need to pass a license exam for your state and maintain that license annually.
Provide a good service and you could earn anywhere from 15% to 20% of the total amount of the haircut.
The average wage for barbers is $15 an hour, but it can fall anywhere from $12 to $19 an hour.
17. Casino Host
- Earn up to: $43 an hour + 15% to 20% tips
Casino hosts cultivate relationships between loyal patrons and the casino. So, the casino has the authority to offer freebies to players that can range from free drinks to free rooms.

18. Tattoo Artist
- Earn up to: $148 an hour + 15% to 30% tips
Next on the list we have tattoo artist. Tattoos are super popular. If you are artistic, this could be a career to consider. Tattoo artists earn 15% to 30% in tips!

19. Hotel Floor Manager

24. Gaming dealer
- Earn up to: $21 an hour + $15 to $50 an hour in tips
Next on the list we have gaming dealer. Casinos rely on dealers to run their games.
Gaming dealers can earn anywhere from $6 to $21 an hour with the average pay being around $9 an hour.
You can earn even more money from gambler’s tips. You can earn anywhere from $15 to $50 per hour in tips! Although the $50 per hour is an outlier statistic!

25. Banquet manager
- Earn up to: $32 an hour + $7.30 median hourly tips.
You could also consider becoming a banquet manager. Banquet managers make anywhere from $9 to $32 an hour with the average wage being $23 an hour.
Banquet managers are responsible for overseeing the hosting of banquets and ensure that customers have an excellent banquet experience. They also liaise with other employees, like head chefs and banquet sales directors, and help with things like determining the number of wait staff and planning the layout and setup of venues.
