This is the most popular receipt scanning app and for good reason. You can earn cash back at over 275 stores, including:

3. Fetch Rewards

Fetch Rewards offers reward points on brand name grocery, beauty, and personal care products.

It doesn’t matter where you purchase these products either, so the app is compatible with any store.

You earn your points after scanning your receipt. For every dollar spent, you get ten points. These points can be redeemed for Visa and retail gift cards.

4. ReceiptPal

• App available for: iOS – Android

For this app, you earn money for every receipt you upload. This works for any kind of store, even gas stations!

You also earn money for other purchases, such as oil changes or hotel room booking.

You can upload a maximum of 12 receipts each weak, which is worth about 300 points. Points can be redeemed for contest prizes, gift cards, or cash payments.

5. CoinOut

For every receipt you scan, you get a random amount of change. They also offer paid surveys and promotional offers every now, which also give you money.

Not only does this app give the best digital coupons, but they also give cash rewards for grocery purchases.

You get $1 back on any Walmart grocery item just for downloading the app and scanning your receipt.

7. Trim

Technically this isn’t a receipt scanning app, because it tracks your purchases automatically, thus skipping the receipt scanning step altogether.

The app will give you cash when you shop with a Visa credit card. Trim also has several other features for saving money:

• Cancels monthly subscriptions you don’t use
• Tracks your spending
• Renegotiates your cable or internet bill
• Receive price protection refunds on Amazon purchases

Since Trim is connected with your Visa card, you don’t need to scan your grocery receipt to receive credit. The app automatically tracks those purchases for you!

This is a must-have app!

This app saves you money using your gas receipts! If you’ve ever been annoyed at how much it costs to fill up your car, then you need this app. You get 1% cash back and an addition 2% towards their rewards. This app works at every type of gas station too, making it super convenient and one of the best apps to get cheap gas.

9. SavingStar SS is now a part of Coupons.com!

This app works with most grocery stores, though how you get your money depends on the brand. Some stores require you to scan your receipt with the app, others ask for a digital receipt via a store loyalty card.

This app allows you to cash out at $5, and you can get your money through PayPal, check direct deposit, and gift cards.

10. TopCashback

• App available for: iOS – Android

This app works for online shopping.

During each session you spend on the app, the retailer you buy from will send your purchase details to the app. Then you each a percentage of the sale in cash rewards.

TopCashback works for over 3,500 retailers, so you can earn cash back on basically all the shopping you do.

11. Rakuten (former eBates)

This is a popular app to earn cash back. You can earn between 1% to 40% at over 2,000 online retailers.

Makeena (review) is another app focused on healthier foods. The majority of their offers are focused on fruits and vegetables, as well as organic brands. It also doesn’t matter where you buy the items, as long as you have a paper receipt to scan. They have a $20 cash out minimum and pay through PayPal and Venmo.

14. Receipt Hog

• App available for: iOS – Android

This app works for any store, but most offers you get will be for groceries. The app has a referral program to earn more money, along with paid surveys and fun challenges.

There is a minimum withdrawal requirement of $5, which you earn after getting 1,000 coins.

This app pays you to scan barcodes of items you do and don’t purchase. The app can be used for non-grocery stores, grocery stores, and online stores. They also give you points for simply walking around certain stores and watching videos at home.

16. Walmart Savings Catcher: No longer available!

• App available for: iOS – Android

For those who shop regularly at Walmart, the Walmart app is a fantastic choice to download. The app has a special feature called “Walmart Savings Catcher” (review here) which can get you lots of cash back chances.

All you need to do is link your card with the app. When you shop through the app, either online or paying in person with the app, your purchases will be watched. If the app finds something you bought at a cheaper price at a competitor, Walmart will give you credit for the difference.

Rewards can be redeemed for Walmart gift cards.

17. BerryCart

• App available for: iOS – Android

This app is all about organic food. You get cash back offers on healthy and organic brands. All you need to do is activate the offers you are interested in, buy the products, and then scan your receipt through the app.

Within 24 hours of receipt approval, they pay you via PayPal or gift card, depending on what you want.

This app gives cash back for fulfilling their offers, but it also can help you save money. When you create a shopping list within the app, it will search for the cheapest store to find whatever you are looking for. So, not only do you get money, but you save money too!

19. Mobee

• App available for: iOS – Android

This is a mystery shopping app that pays you to shop at a specific grocery store and then review that experience. They will give you a survey around ten questions to fill out. After you finish, you will be given your reward within 24 hours.

20. Target Circle (formerly known as Target Cartwheel)

Obviously, this app only works at Target. The app activates coupons for any item you purchase. All you have to do is show the cashier your shopping session barcode in the app and you will get your savings instantly applied to your receipt.

21. Grocery iQ: It is now a part of Coupons.com

• App available for: iOS – Android

This app technically doesn’t scan your receipts, but it does scan your shopping list to save you money. This app automatically downloads store coupons to your store loyalty card based off the shopping list you create in the app. It also lets your download manufacturer’s coupons.

22. Hopster: No longer available!

• Available on: any mobile device with online connection.

This isn’t technically an app, but the site does work through mobile devices.

It gives printable coupons that are redeemed in-person. You take a photo of your receipt and email it to the site. Hopster will give you 55 points for each coupon you used on that receipt.

You also get bonus points for following them on social media and watching videos.

Once your receipt is confirmed, you will immediately receive your cash reward on PayPal.

23. Cellfire

Where to get the app:

• Download coupons on the site as their BlackBerry app no longer works.

This is another app the technically doesn’t scan your receipt. This app lets you download coupons and upload them to your store loyalty card through the app. When checking out, have the cashier scan the barcode on the app and the savings will be automatically applied.

If you want to upload your own coupons, you can take a picture of the barcode and the app will convert it into a digital coupon that can be scanned.

24. CheckPoints

While this app doesn’t technically scan receipts, it does scan bar codes of products you bought from grocery and convenient stores. You earn points for:

• Scanning bar codes
• Watching videos
• Answering surveys
• Searching the web

26. GetUpside

• App available for: iOS – Android

This app saves you money on convenience store items, auto services, and gas. You can save up to 25 cents a gallon just by using the app. All you need to do is open it up, check for deals near you, and scan your receipt when you are done with your purchase.

25. Punchcard

Update: It seems like the app is not working for a lot of people. In some of the latest reviews, users complain about how the app doesn’t work or that they can scan receipts but the points stay at zero. So based on these latest reviews, I can’t recommend this app no longer.

Once you scan a receipt in this app, you spin a wheel to earn a points. This app is fairly new, but it still works many different retail locations, including local independent stores. Points can be exchanged for cash prizes and gift cards.

Many people don’t think to check their grocer’s official apps, but you can find some great cash back deals there. Often times these apps will give bonus points, digital coupons, and loyalty program offers just for having the app. Some might even have the option to scan grocery receipts.
