Today, I am going to share a product testing opportunity for one of the biggest athletic wear brands in the world.
No, it’s not Adidas, although Adidas has a product testing program where you can get free shoes and sneakers as a tester.
We are, of course, talking about Nike.
Nike shoes are one of the most popular shoes on the planet. You can find millions of athletes, celebrities and everyday people wearing Nike sneakers and shoes.
If you are one of them and would like to get Nike shoes for free, read on to learn how you can apply, get approved and become a Nike shoe product tester.

How Does it Work?
Companies use product testing as a way to get feedback from consumers so they can improve existing products and make better ones. Most major brands, including shoe manufacturers like Under Armour and New Balance, have products testing in one form or another. Heck, you can even become an Amazon product tester and get free Amazon products.
Now, to do the actual testing, companies have two ways.
- Testers who work remotely
- And testers who work on-site
1. Remote testers
Remote testers are approved via an online application, and are sent products in the mail to test on their own time.
They complete surveys (which are sent along with the product) about their opinion on the product, and they submit a log that details their experiences with the product.
It’s like an online focus group.
2. On-site testers
As an on-site tester, you have to physically show up at one of Nike’s testing facilities.
The exact location of the Nike testing facilities varies, so based on your location, you’ll be assigned tests that are done in a testing facility near you.
Their process of reviewing the products is similar to the remote testers, however.
So How Do I Become a Nike Product Tester?
To become a Nike product tester, you have to accept their rules first, then apply and get approved.
Here’s’ how to do it right now:

- Step 1: Go to Voice of the Athlete which is Nike’s official product testing site at https://voiceoftheathlete.nike.com/ and hit the “Apply” button.
- Step 2: Read the rules (Nike product testing recruitment code) and submit your application.
- Step 3: Get approved and start testing.
Note: Voice of the Athlete is a new website. The company’s old product testing site was located at producttesting.nike.com which no longer works.
The application form will have the usual identification questions like your location, age and so on. You’ll then answer questions about your favorite sports and sports activities followed by questions about your clothes and footwear shopping habits, what you look for in terms of style, what sizes you wear and what preferences you have regarding sports clothing.
This is all mostly demographic information that they’re collecting to determine whether or not you are a good fit for them.
Your Measurement
Nike is an apparel company, plain and simple. Because of that, they’re going to want to know your precise measurements. This is not only so they can consider your demographic, but also so they can match you with clothing and shoes that actually fit you!
They’re going to want your exact foot-to-head height. This means standing on a tape measure and pulling it up to your head. In the interest of complete accuracy, it is recommended to get a second pair of eyes when you do this.
Here’s how to do the measurement:
- Measure your chest all the way around, on the widest area possible. This usually means placing the tape measure across your chest muscles and measuring from there.
- FEMALE ONLY. This one is for your general bust size. To measure this, place the tape measure directly under your breasts and measure from there.
- Then the most narrow area of your waist (which should be around the navel.)
- And finally, the most narrow part of your hips, which should be just past the most outward bones of your pelvis.
Once you’re done with getting all this info and entering it in the appropriate sections in the application form, submit the application and wait for the approval.
It’ll usually take a few weeks to process the application. You should be hearing back from Nike by at most 3 to 4 weeks after applying.
Nike Product Testing Applications
Because Nike has footwear and apparel for different age groups, they separate participants based on age so they can send them appropriate products to test. And because of that, they have separate applications for each age group.

- Application for Adults (18+ years old)
- Application for Minors (13-17 years old)
- Application for Parents applying for a Child (12 years or younger)
Can You Become a Nike Product Tester if You’re Outside the U.S.?
Yes, the good news is that you can indeed get free Nike shoes and apparels even if you don’t live in the U.S.
Unfortunately, the company only accepts product testers from a few countries (at least at the time of writing this post) including Mexico, Japan, Italy, Canada and China (they’ll ask your country of residence in the application form)
Why?
Because these are the countries that the company has huge market shares in so it makes sense for them to want to get feedback from customers in those countries so they can develop better products so they can sell more and make more money. After all, product testing programs are in place to help companies gather feedback from actual users to improve existing products and develop better ones in the future. It’s the exact same reason why focus groups and online surveys exist.
If you live outside of the United States and your country is not one of the accepted countries, you can always contact the company and ask to receive a link to an online application.
To contact them, send an email to producttesting@nike.com. In the subject line, enter one of the followings based on your interest:
- Apparel: NPT Support (Apparel)
- Shoes: NPT Support (Footwear)
Important
Nike will review your profile at the end of each year to evaluate how you’ve performed as a tester, and will decide to cancel or renew their partnership with you for the following year.
There is an incentive to participate in good faith because it’s always good to have your partnership renewed!
So, be sure to play by the rules so you can keep getting free shoes.
Nike Product Testing Compensation
As a Nike product tester, you will get free Nike shoes to test.
As far as I know, there is no monetary compensation for becoming a Nike wear tester, meaning you will not get paid, but you do of course get free shoes and athletic clothes that Nike makes.
So, let’s say they need to test a new sneaker to see how it perform in one year. They send you a pair, you wear it for one year, then send it back to their lab so they can analyze it. So, you got a pair of shoes for free for a whole year.
Now, there are some cases where you don’t even have to send the products back for analysis. So you keep the stuff for as long as they can be used. Sweet!
Either way, I think it’s a great opportunity to get free stuff while helping companies like Nike develop cutting-edge products.
You can help the company out and get some free stuff, so it’s definitely something that is worth recommending to any of the sports fans and athletes in your life.

Lily, they have two different programs for teens and adults.
In most cases, you don’t keep the shoes. You have to send them back after wearing them for the duration of the test so they can evaluate how they performed. And no it is not a scam. It is direct from the Nike company.

I am 12 and live in the UK I am very sporty but many of my sports are either barefoot e.g karate and gymnastics or have specialised footwear like rockclimbing I often go to the gym and would wear them there but I don’t know whether that would be enough

Yes, Nike (and I would think most companies) don’t send out products to be tested to the same people that often, unless of course they are testing a different product.

Jose, interesting question. Their application info shows one for 18 and older and the other for 13 and under, so that leaves people 14 to 17 out. To be honest I am not sure how that works. Your best bet would be to contact them via the main site, or just apply and see what happens.

Do they send you something to ship there products back or do you have to pay to have them shipped back
They will give you a prepaid shipping label (they send it to you when they are originally sending you the shoe to wear and test) that you can use to send the shoe back.

Hi , my s on is the middlesex x country champion (google adam ireland hillingdon) he loves nike knows all about them and swears by them, he has done the london mini marathon , which he ran in 17.30, he came 7th in under 17 at metropolitan league, and at battersea the morunner he came 1st for age and third overall everyone wanted to know who he was where he trains what he wears , i think he would be good advertising for nike as all of his friends now wear nike thanks to adam. everyone is calling him the new mo farah , he has won the trophy mo farah once held.
Susan, I think you should definitely put in an application for him. This is exactly the kind of people Nike and other manufacturers who have testing programs look for.
I was just accepted as a Nike Product Tester. What is the average length of time before you are sent an item to test?
Congrats, Cathy. There is no telling really. It depends on whether or not they have any upcoming study. Normally, when they accept you for a specific study, it can take about 2 weeks to receive the product.
