Update: Xomba no longer offers the platform for writers as it used to.
Can you actually make money writing on Xomba?
Writing articles for money online is a great way to earn extra cash for almost anyone who can write.
There are tons of sites that pay you to write. And one of those sites is Xomba.
Table of Contents
What is Xomba anyway?
For starters, Xomba.com is a content site like eHow or Squidoo where you can publish articles and earn money. The money comes from the Google Adsense ads displayed alongside your content.
But there is a huge difference between how this site works and other similar sites. Here, you can actually earn money by promoting articles you have published on other content sites.
FreeCash: Earn money testing apps, playing games, and completing surveys. Up to $497.82 per offer! Start earning now!
Earn Haus: Get paid up to $25 per survey, plus enjoy same-day payments via PayPal, Venmo, or check! Join Earn Haus Today!
InboxDollars: Over $57 million paid to members for watching videos, shopping, and completing surveys. Get $5 instantly when you join!
iPsos iSay: If you’re only signing up for one survey site, make it Ipsos – high-paying surveys await! Join iPsos today!
KashKick: Get paid to watch videos, shop, surf the web, and more. Receive PayPal payments directly. Start earning with KashKick now!
Swagbucks: Watch videos, shop online, take surveys, and more. Join now and get $10 instantly to start!
So, basically you will get paid to promote your content published on other sites.
How great is that?
To promote an article from any another site where you write, you will need to draft a 50 word description (known as “Blurb” or “Bookmark”), which describes what the content of the article is.
People are more likely to click on the link you post with the blurb if the blurb is written in a very interesting way.
The blurbs are actually what make Xomba unique. Blurbs on the site, are in reality, tools that are utilized to promote your articles on other sites.
So, as you can see, this site is very different from other sites since its blurbs actually lets you continue to earn bucks from the views on the original site as well as from the blurb itself on Xomba.
In effect, you actually get paid twice for the same article. Unlike in other writing sites which require you to republish articles to a new site which leads to loss of the views from the original site.
Of course, this is a content site, which means you can also earn (more) money by publishing original articles here.
There are also contests every now and then with considerable cash prizes. A $500,000 cash prize is being offered for the first place winner of its current contest.
How will you make money?
The earning system actually works like many other writing sites. The cash you will earn from the articles or blurbs depends on how many views these receives. You can earn a decent revenue when you get more views.
Advertisements
The site uses a system known as “Adsense Revenue Sharing”. It works like this:
- Thanks to Google Adsense technology, very targeted ads are displayed in and around your article and blurbs.
- Xomba splits the Google AdSense revenue with you 60/40.
- 60% of the time, your Ad units are shown (when you sign up for the site, you give them your Adsense ID). 40% of the time, Xomba’s Adsense ads are shown.
Now, it’s important to point out that Xomba doesn’t pay you directly. You get paid from Google Adsense once you reach $100.
The good thing is if you are using Adsense on your own site or other article sites as well, the earnings from all these sites add up very quickly.
You can ask to be paid via check by Google or you can set up a direct deposit. I have my Adsense payments deposited directly to my bank account. It just makes it easier.
Hitting two Birds with one Stone
For me the best part is that by publishing blurbs here, not only you earn money for views you get on the actual blurb, but you also earn more money from the published articles (on other sites) that you are promoting with your blurb.
Example:
So, let’s say you want to make money with HubPages. You go ahead and publish an article there. Then you write a quick blurb about it and publish the blurb on Xomba.
Each time somebody views that blurb you are credited with a page view (the more page views you get, the more money you earn). But even better is if the reader clicks on the link to your article, you also earn money from the page view on your articles on HubPages.
Of course, if the reader click on any of the ads displayed there, you earn money as well.
Does it really increase my earning on other sites?
As I have not been a member of Xomba for a long time, I’m still not in a position to say how the blurbs will affect views from the other sites in the long-run.
Though, what I can say for now is that in the last 2 months, these blurbs I used to post links for only 10 articles have already given me at least 20 new views per day for each of the ten article.
It’s not much, but just imagine the possibility if you posted a hundred or even a thousand blurbs!
Bottom line
I wouldn’t count on this site as a platform where you can make hundreds of dollars every month.
There are far better sites that will pay you much more than what Xomba pays, such as Squidoo and HubPages.
That said, I think it’s a good way to promote your already published articles on other sites while earning a few dollars.
Of course, like any other writing site, the quality and quantity of the articles will determine whether you’ll be successful in earning money via Xomba.
So the bottom line is that if your goal is to make some money from writing, then I personally think that the idea of getting paid twice for the same article is what makes Xomba worthwhile.
