One of the most famous museums in the world, The Louvre, is virtually opening its doors to people all over the world. It’s offering virtual tours where you can admire the palace architecture, enjoy the views, and visit the museum rooms and galleries all from the comfort of your own home.

Visiting NASA is a dream for many. Well, now, you don’t even have to leave your home to enjoy the experience. NASA is offering a ton of different tours where you can explore its facilities. You can view its laboratories, enter its operations control centers and more.

3. Learn to paint with Bob Ross

I really enjoy watching Bob Ross videos. Not only are they super relaxing, but they also teach you about painting in an accessible way. With simple instructions, a palette of colors that an introductory painter could easily obtain, and fun, encouraging instructions from Bob Ross, anyone can get started with painting.

Bob Ross’s “The Joy of Painting” show is available on YouTube for free! So you can head on over there and learn to paint from the wonderful Bob Ross. And as for the painting supplies, you can pick up small tubes of oil paint, and brushes, on Amazon and at art stores for a reasonable price. Once you have the painting supplies, you’ll be able to use them over and over to create great works. It’s one of the most creative things to do online!

4. Discuss your favorite TV shows on Reddit

Whenever I finish a show, I always head on over to Reddit to read other people’s opinions on it. It’s such a fun hobby. I love reading people’s opinions on their favorite and least favorite characters, what they think is the best season of a TV show, and just other musings on my favorite shows. This is a fun way to spend some time online, and it’s totally free.

5. Tour the Pergamon Museum, Berlin

I visited the Pergamon Museum in Berlin a couple of years ago and it offers some incredible exhibitions. It includes structures, such as the Pergamon Altar, the Market Gate of Miletus, and the Ishtar Gate.

6. Go down the rabbit hole that is Wikipedia!

Wikipedia is one of those sites where you can learn about anything and everything. From cats to baking, to Victorian-era England, you really can find articles on almost any topic you could think of. And, it’s easy to get sucked down the rabbit hole that is Wikipedia. You start reading about one thing and click a blue link to another page, and so it continues on! GeoGuessr is such a fun game. Basically, you need to guess locations in the world from Street View photos. So, GeoGuessr will show you a photo of somewhere in the world, and then it lets you choose a point on the map to see how close you can get to the actual location of the picture. It’s such a fun site for when you’re bored!

The Yellowstone National Park is one of the most stunning places in the country. Now, you can enjoy the views from home because the park is offering virtual tours.

9. See every plane in the sky at any time at Flightradar24

It’s impressive/scary when you see just how many planes are in the sky at the same time with Flightradar24.

Flightrador24 is a global flight tracking service that offers real-time information on 1000s of aircraft around the world. It tracks more than 180,000 flights from about 1,200 airlines, which are flying to or from more than 4,000 airports around the world in real time!

You can look at the map and see every plane that’s in the sky at any given time. You can even click on a specific aircraft and get more information on it.

Even with all of the TV shows there are to binge nowadays, nothing beats watching a good movie. If you’re bored at home, why not have a movie night?

I love watching movies online. It’s so fun! I enjoy streaming thrillers, mystery movies, and the occasional horror movie as well. You can get some popcorn, get a movie ready to stream, and just have fun! There are lots of places you can watch movies for free as well. You don’t need to pay for a service like Netflix.

It’s an awesome website that offers a huge selection of public domain, royalty-free images that are scanned from old books.

It’s great for finding free printables, or graphics to use in digital projects. But even if you aren’t working on a DIY project like that, the website is awesome for anyone who loves historical documents.

18. Get a “Degree”

Many colleges and universities are offering their course materials for free online. So you can do the degree course for free! You don’t get the degree, but you can learn from some of the best colleges and universities in the world. And, it’s free!

19. Find out how long a binge watch will take (and how long you spend watching TV!)

Want to know how long it would take to binge watch a show? Well, with Tiii.me, you can! You can enter the name of a TV show and the number of seasons and find out how long it would take you to watch it. I tried this with the show Justified, which has 6 seasons, and apparently, it takes 3 days and 6 hours to watch. Interesting, right?

20. Answer questions online (and even get paid for it!)

Why not help people out by answering their questions? It’s a social, interactive activity, and you can even get paid for it. Yes, there are sites out there that pay you for answering questions. You won’t earn a ton of money, but hey, it’s still cash for spending time online, which you already do anyway, right?

21. Listen to music and create your own playlists

Listening to music is fun, and it can be free too. There are lots of sites that allow you to listen to music for free and many of them allow you to create your own playlists too. You can create playlists of your favorite songs, genre-themed lists, lists with music from certain decades, and much more. There are so many options when it comes to creating playlists!

22. Take a 360-degree video tour of Crater Lake National Park

There’s a 360-degree video tour available of Crater Lake National Park where you can view the deepest lake in the USA, and one of the top ten deepest lakes in the world! It offers remarkable sights of Crater Lake National Park.

23. Meditate

UCLA Health is offering free guided meditations. This includes things like 5 minute breathing meditations.

24. Go for a “stroll” with Google Street View

I love Google Street View. I just think it’s so much fun dropping that little orange person on the map and seeing what appears. You can visit everywhere from far-off tropical locations to little-known streets in your town.

So, take yourself away, at least virtually, to somewhere new with Google Street View. All you need to do to get started is open up Google Maps, search for a place you want, or click somewhere on the map, and then drag and drop the street view guy.

Cleverbot is a bot that you can chat with about anything. The AI learns from people too. Yeah, so I find this one a little creepy, but hey, apparently you can have some pretty funny conversations!

You can take in the amazing sights on offer from the Channel Islands Live Ocean Webcam. You can view the beautiful forest and almost 1,000 marine species in the park!

27. Read interesting letters at Letters of Note

Letters of Note is a website that’s basically an online museum of letters from people throughout history. It’s really interesting to read these articles from different people from different time periods.

28. Make a Themed List and Work On It

Use the internet to research things like the best movies, books, and TV shows. And then create a themed list.

For example, you could create a list of all the books that Stephen King has written, and then read them all. All you’d need to do to get the titles is search for “Stephen King books” on Google, and then write out your list.

Write your themed list then work your way through it. You could write down a list of the best horror movies (there are plenty of lists and articles online on the best horror movies) or create a list of 90s movies that you’ve always wanted to watch. This is fun and it’s free to do!

29. Learn a language

I would love to be able to speak another language. I know a bit of German, but if I had some more time, learning a language is something I would love to do.

Okay, so I find this one to be a whole lot of fun. Basically, you can use the Wayback Machine to see how websites used to look in years gone by.

I love this live camera footage of the Statue of Liberty. I’ve never been to NYC, although it’s somewhere that I’ve always wanted to visit, but the camera of the Statue of Liberty gives you a great sense of what the striking landmark is like in real life!

I love looking at the rankings on Ranker. If you don’t know what Ranker is, it’s basically a website where people can rank things like TV shows, movies, food, sports, culture, and much more.

I like it for TV shows. I’ve looked up lists of the best seasons of Grimm, Friends, and other TV shows that I like. It’s such a fun way to spend time. The best part is that you can rank stuff yourself just by clicking on the arrows. It’s an incredibly popular website that gets more than 40 million unique visitors a month from around the globe.

36. Get inspiration for your apartment or house from Apartment Therapy

Want to zhush (yup that’s how you spell that according to the internet – learning how to spell new words can also be fun) up your home then head on over to Apartment Therapy. This site is all about interior design and lifestyle topics. You’ll find everything from DIY how-tos to shopping guides on there.

37. Watch the brown bears at Katmai National Park and Preserve

See the beautiful brown bears of Brooks River and the surrounding area at Katmai National Park and Preserve. You can watch the mother bears teach their cubs, and there’s even an underwater camera that allows you to experience the summer and fall seasons from a salmon’s perspective. Sounds interesting, right?

40. Discover your family tree

Spending time searching your family tree online can be a lot of fun.

Here are a few sites where you can learn about your family tree for free:

FamilySearch (It offers free family trees and genealogy archives).
National Archives (It offers census records, immigration records, and more, and many of the resources listed on there are free to view).
Ancestry.com (Although it’s a good starting point, Ancestry.com only offers a free trial and you’ll have to pay for it once that ends).

41. Do an “entertainment swap” with friends and family

You could also do an entertainment swap with your friends and family. So, ask friends or family about their favorite Netflix show, artist, news website, podcast, etc. Then, you tell them about yours and you guys each view the media recommended by the other.

So, for example, let’s say that you recommend your favorite Netflix show, and they recommend theirs. You’d each watch the other’s recommended show. Not only do you get new stuff to watch, read, or listen to, but you also get more stuff to talk about with your friends.

42. Play Free Games Online

Playing games is another super fun, free thing to do online.

Notpron is a puzzle created in 2004 by German game developer David Münnich. The game claims to be the hardest on the internet, which sounds about right since only about 100 people, as of October 2020, have ever completed the game out of 20 million visitors since August 2004. It’s an online puzzle game and internet riddle that’s sure to keep you entertained!

44. Admire art at the Albertina in Vienna, Austria

I have been to Vienna and it has some of the best art museums ever. One of the best in the city is the Albertina. The building itself is beautiful as it was the city’s largest residential palace during the Habsburg monarchy.

Now, it’s a renowned art museum that features works from some of the most famous artists like Da Vinci and Monet. You can take a virtual tour of the museum and learn all about the artworks exhibited there.

I find the quizzes at Vocabulary.com strangely addictive. But, hey, I enjoy learning about words and grammar! If you do too, then I would highly recommend checking out the site.
