Nobody is thinking about where to sell a bridesmaid dress before and during the big day. But let’s face it, just like with your wedding dress, after a wedding, you’re unlikely to ever wear your bridesmaid dress again, right?
Don’t just leave it taking up space in your closet.
Instead, sell it!
Yes, you could make money selling your old bridesmaid dress for cash. Most of us don’t have big wedding budgets. So this is much better than having a dress in your closet that you’re just not going to use again.

To list your dress for sale on there, you have to pay a $5 fee. That’s not too high of a fee, right?
In terms of how much you can get for selling your dress to the site, it doesn’t actually say.
Preowned Wedding Dresses does have a really handy calculator on there that can be used to calculate the resale value of a wedding dress, but no calculator for bridesmaid dresses.
You could use that, but it may not be super accurate.
I had a browse of what bridesmaid dresses were currently selling for. Many were selling for anywhere from 10% to 50% off retail value. Some were selling for more than 50% off. This means that you could, potentially, get up to 90% of the retail value of your dress.
Although Preowned Wedding Dresses does charge you to list items for sale, there are no commission fees. So you get to keep all of the cash you make from the sale.
2. OnceWed
- Earnings: Up to 90% retail value
OnceWed is another one to consider. This is another popular site where people can buy and sell used wedding dresses and other types of dresses, like bridesmaid dresses.
To list your bridesmaid dress for sale on there, you will need to pay a $5 listing fee. That’s a pretty low listing fee. Also, when your item sells, you don’t need to pay any commission fees.
This means that you get to keep 100% of the profits.
I did some research into what used bridesmaid dresses are currently selling for on OnceWed. I found that dresses were selling for anywhere between 10% and 60% off retail value. Some sold for bigger discounts than that. So, it’s totally possible to get 40% to 90% of your dress’s retail value back.

3. Tradesy
- Earnings: Up to 80% (Most commonly 20% to 30%) of retail value
Another place to consider is Tradesy. It’s a really popular platform where people can buy and sell used clothing. Most people don’t know that you can actually sell wedding attire on there, and this, of course, includes bridesmaid dresses.
You can list your dress for sale there.
While Tradesy is known for having huge discounts of up to 90% off retail value, you can still get a decent amount of cashback from selling your used bridesmaid dress on the site.
During my research, I found that many dresses on Tradesy were selling for anywhere from 20% to more than 80% off retail value.
That would mean you would net about 20% to 80% of the sale. So, let’s say you had a $100 dress, that would mean you could earn anywhere from $20 to $80 back from the sale.
I would say that I did see a lot of bridesmaid dresses on Tradesy selling for 70% to 80% off, which means you’d only be getting like 20% to 30% of your dress’s value. The site, compared to others on the list, does seem to be geared toward offering large discounts, which isn’t always best for the seller.
That’s not to say that you can’t get much for your dress. As I said, I did see some dresses sold for just 20% off retail value.
The site charges a flat commission fee of $7.50 for sold items that are worth less than $50. For items that are worth more than $50, the site charges a 19.8% commission fee.
You also need to take that into account.
Let’s say your dress is worth $200.
You sell it for $100, and Tradesy takes a 19.8% commission fee. This means that you would earn $80.20 from the sale.
4. Etsy
- Earnings: Vary
Etsy is a really popular place for bridalwear, so I would definitely consider selling your dress there. I actually bought my wedding veil from a seller on Etsy. Since lots of people do go to the site to purchase wedding items, it’s a good place to list a used bridesmaid dress for sale.
Etsy does charge you to list items on there. It costs $0.20 to list an item. When your dress sells, you will need to pay a 5% transaction fee and 3% plus a $0.25 payment processing fee.
Now, because new and used bridesmaid dresses are sold on Etsy, I can’t give you a percentage figure or even a percentage range that dresses are selling for on there. Unlike the sites above, there is no RRP listed for dresses on there. So, I can’t say how much you could expect to earn. It really depends on the value of your dress.
5. Poshmark
- Earnings: Up to 85% of the retail value
Next on the list we have Poshmark. This is basically an online consignment store where you can earn money selling used clothing. You can sell wedding attire there too, like bridesmaid dresses. You can even sell your engagement ring.
Many items on Poshmark are heavily discounted, with items available for up to 70% off, you can still get great value from selling your dress on the platform.
I saw dresses on there selling for a variety of different discounts. Most of the ones I saw were selling for 15% to 80% off.
This means that you can expect to get anywhere from 20% to 85% of the dress’s retail value.
Poshmark does charge you commission fees when your items sell. The site takes a flat commission rate of $2.95 for sales under $15. For sales that are worth $15 or more, the site takes a 20% commission fee.
Let’s say that you have a dress that’s worth $300, and you sell it for $240 (so you sell it for 80% of the retail value).
When it sells, Poshmark would charge you 20% on the sale. So $240 minus 20%, would be $192. So $192 would be your profit on the sale.
Summary
If you have an old bridesmaid dress that you no longer want, then sell it. You have quite a few options for doing so. Sure, you’re unlikely to get what the dress was worth when it was first purchased, but you can still get money from something that you no longer need.
I think that Preowned Wedding Dresses and OnceWed are the best choices. Firstly, I saw that quite a lot of dresses listed on those two sites were selling for a price that wasn’t too far below the retail price. I saw quite a lot selling for just 10% less than their original price.
So, for getting the most money from a sale, those two websites are definitely good choices. Plus, they are specifically geared toward wedding attire. This means that you may get a more targeted customer base than you would on a site like Tradesy or Poshmark.
All of the sites above have their benefits though. So do have a look at them all to see which one best suits your needs.
