Fun fact: The “father” (for at least the English version) of this word game is Norman E. Gibat who designed and published the first Word search (also referred to as Word Find, Word Seek, Word Sleuth, WonderWord or Mystery Word Puzzle) in the Selenby Digest on March 1, 1968, in Norman, Oklahoma. They had (and still have) dedicated sections in newspapers and magazines. But these days you can find actual Word Search books that have 100s of puzzles within them. Of course, there are also digital versions where you can play them online or print them to play using pen and paper.

This is a really interesting tool from Discovery Education that allows you to make your own word search puzzle! Crazy, right?
You can enter the words you want to include in the word search. This is so much fun because you could make one based on things you like or if you have a child you could include their interests in the word search. Once you’ve entered the details, you can click “Create My Puzzle!”
The tool will then create your word search and you’ll be directed to a page where you can print it out. You don’t even need to login to create your puzzle.

Here, you can get a list of more than 25 word searches that you can print out.
This website isn’t as easy to navigate as some of the others. I found getting to the actual download link much more cumbersome than I did on the other sites on the list. This is because you have to click on the one you want, which then redirects you to another page where you then have to scroll down a blog post to find the link.
Still, the puzzles look great and you can find an awesome selection. There are lots of categories available from zoo animals to colors for kids and adults!
