Summer is almost here and that means vacation time for tens of thousands of people.
Although, according to CNN, the number of Americans taking yearly vacations has been decreasing in the past few decades. And one of the main reasons for this sharp decline is the cost of traveling these days.
With the price of travel and hotels, relaxing and unwinding on vacation is hard.
You’re likely to get more stressed out worrying about how you are going to pay for it.
But with careful planning, you just might find that you can pick up some extra cash while traveling, and that will help you really enjoy yourself.

Make Your Social Media Pay
I bet you thought that social media was just for making your friends jealous of your vacation!
But it’s not.
1. CoSign
Update: No longer available.
With a little app called CoSign you may make some money too.
Say you buy some new sandals. All you have to do is take a photograph with your smartphone and use the CoSign app to tag it, with the brand, the online retailer, and the price. You then share it on Facebook and Twitter.
As soon as someone buys through the link which is connected to your photograph, you earn sales commission from CoSign. You get a percentage of what CoSign earns, at least, 30% and possibly as much as 60% once you become an experienced user.
How much you actually get depends on the deal between CoSign and the retailer, and it’s recurring income, every time someone buys.
CoSign pays out once your balance gets to $40.
2. Swagbucks
If you are like most people who at the end of the day get on Facebook or YouTube to unwind and watch a few videos, wouldn’t you rather get paid for doing it?
Then join Swagbucks for free and get paid for watching videos, playing games, doing offers, and even online shopping.

Swagbucks is a rewards site that pays you for watching videos, playing games, shopping, doing offers, and much more.
As I explained in our Swagbucks review, just a few minutes a day is enough to get you an extra $750 a year on Swagbucks.
And the beauty of it is that you can do this from anywhere, at the beach, in a camp, in your hotel room, while relaxing by the pool…. Wherever you are as long as you have a device with internet connection, you can turn your spare time into money-making time.
And to get you going, Swagbucks is offering new members a free $5 sign up bonus.
Use this link to sign up and get your free $5.
Make Money from Your Vacation Photos
Nowadays you don’t have to keep your photos to yourself and friends, you can share them with the world and perhaps make some money.
3. Foap
A variation of this is the free app Foap which you can download to your smartphone. Any picture that you take with your phone that sells will earn you $5, and you can also win contests for $100+.
The contests are called “missions”, and a recent one awarded $300 for the best shot of a piña colada.
4. Fotoli
Update: Fotolia has been acquired by Adobe. However you can sell photos through Adobe Stock website.
Fotolia is one of many stock image websites where you can make money selling your photos.
You upload your pictures and if the site approves them they are then added to their marketplace where businesses and people in need of pictures can buy them.
You earn royalties which can vary from a few cents to many dollars every time your photos are downloaded.
Turn Your House into a Vacation Rental
If you’re not going to be using it, why don’t you let someone else use it and pay you money?
If you don’t mind strangers in your home, simply rent it out while you are away for someone else to use on their vacation.
5. AirBNB
Probably the best-known company for doing this is AirBNB.
You can make hundreds or thousands of dollars depending where your house is, how big it is, and how long you are away.
Don’t forget that you can always use AirBNB to find your own vacation accommodations, too!
Make Extra Cash While on Sightseeing
While you are looking around your holiday destination, you can still be earning.
6. Gigwalk
How would you like to get paid for walking?
Well, you won’t exactly get paid for walking, but it’s close enough. With Gigwalk, which is an app for both iOS and Android devices, you can find quick jobs or gigs wherever you are (though it’s only available in the US at the moment). Just check your phone for jobs near you.
Jobs include secret shopping in a nearby store and checking out store displays. They can take as little as 5 minutes or a couple of hours, and pay from $3-$100.
The money is paid into your PayPal account.
7. Field Agent
This is the same idea as Gigwalk, giving you tasks appropriate to your current location.
Field Agent is a market research company, and most of their gigs are mystery shopping in the local area.
The jobs are quick, and pay up to $10 for a couple of minutes work.
You also get a chance to win $50 if your submission is one of the top 3 on particular jobs.
Use Your Car to Make Money
You may be used to your car being an unneeded expense while you’re on vacation, with the outrageous airport parking fees. And even then, you have to get the bus to the terminal!
8. FlightCar
Here’s a possible solution to that problem. FlightCar lets you park at the airport for nothing. In return, you have to agree to let your car be available for rent by screened and approved members of FlightCar.
So if your car is rented out, you will be paid for the rental; if no one wants to rent your car, at least, the parking didn’t cost you anything, and FlightCar will give you a car wash.
You can potentially make hundreds a month and save hundreds a month if you are a frequent traveler.
9. Turo (Previously RelayRides)
Turo is a competitor to FlightCar, and has a few differences.
It lets you approve the renters and allows you to post your own free listing.
You get paid 75% of the rental fee, which can vary from $24-$100 per day, depending how fancy your car is.
10. SpotHero
If you live in a city, and won’t be using your parking space while your car is at the airport, here’s another way to get help with the cost of parking. Just rent out your parking space by the hour, day, or week.
SpotHero helps you do this, although there is a 15% commission charge.
Final Words
Now you know several ways that you can earn or save money while you go on vacation, all you have to do is go ahead and enjoy yourself, and not worry about the cost!
