We all love to save money on gasoline!
With summer on the way, it is time to plan that family vacation! For many of us, that means a road trip!
According to AAA, the national gas price average today is $2.398 a gallon!
For a lot of families that is a hard pill to swallow. You could easily spend a few hundred dollars on gas for an average family vacation.
Even if you take road trips and vacations out of the picture, most of us end up spending way too much on gas for our daily commutes.
Thankfully, there are a few ways you can save at the pump.

Today, we’re going to share another very under-utilized method that many of us may not even be aware of…
Gas Station Rewards!
Most convenience stores and gas stations nowadays have some sort of loyalty program where you earn points and exclusive discounts just for getting gas and buying snacks at the station.
Most of these programs give you awesome discounts on gasoline (usually a few cents off per gallon).
They work somewhat like traditional gas rewards credit cards. But you won’t be using a credit card, nor will you be paying any interest (which usually offsets whatever savings you get by using the credit card in the first place!).
A trip to the gas station usually also involves buying some snacks for the road, some of these programs save you money on your treats as well!
Ready to save some money on gas and snacks?
Here are some of the best…

Fuel Rewards Home Depot
While researching for this post, I came across a few mentions of something known as the Fuel Rewards Home Depot.
But The Home Depot is a home improvement warehouse, not a gas station?
I know, I had the same initial thought and reaction!
Apparently, you can save on gas by shopping at The Home Depot!
This is done through the Shell Fuel Rewards program we mentioned earlier.
Here is how it works:
- First read the Terms & Conditions here, then enroll your new or existing Home Depot commercial credit card account.
- Wait 5–7 business days to receive your new Fuel Rewards card in the mail.
- Once you got the card, continue shopping at The Home Depot as you would normally (but use these tips to save money at The Home Depot).
- You’ll automatically earn at least 10¢/gal in Fuel Rewards savings for every $100 of qualifying purchases.
- Then simply swipe your Fuel Rewards card at the pump to redeem your savings at participating Shell and other select stations and watch your price drop.
Important: You can only benefit from this program if you have a Home Depot commercial credit card.
Final Thoughts
Many of these gas stations have mobile apps, and some give you an actual card to use with each purchase to get your free gasoline discounts.
Just make sure you remember to use them every time you fill up the tank.
Enjoy your road trip and watch your savings add up!
