Want to earn extra pocket change for doing next to nothing?
EarnHoney, a survey and reward site, claims you can do just that using its site and app.
In this review, you’ll find out whether EarnHoney is a legit way to earn passive online rewards by taking surveys, watching videos, completing offers and referring friends or just a waste of time.
Before we get to the actual review, let’s see what the site/app is and how it works.
Table of Contents
What is EarnHoney?
The site’s big sell is a cash reward for “stuff you already do” online.
And as you know, there are tons of sites that pay you for things you already do online.

It also promises payouts for users at 3x the speed of other passive earning sites.
The website operates a rewards network that allows its users to earn virtual currency at their own pace.
The User Panel, helps you track your login and earning activity.
That currency can then be redeemed for cash and rewards.
About the company
The site was founded in April 2014 and is located in Chicago, Illinois.
Their goal is to solve advertisers’ biggest issues by using math, statistics, and data science to make relevant advertising even more valuable through proper targeting. This increases a business’ return on investment in advertising.
That’s where users come in. Most of what you’ll be doing is watching and interacting with online advertising content and special offers.
How to get started
EH is currently only available to users in the United States.
It’s easy to get started.
Download the Chrome extension
EH works best in Google Chrome.
Advertisements
So before you even get started, install the Google Chrome browser if you don’t already have it.
Next, add the EarnHoney Chrome extension. It’ll help you keep track of your earnings balance in real time.
That way, you can keep track of what’s working for you, and what isn’t.
Here’s how:
- Step 1: Visit earnhoney.com and click “Register Now for Free.” You’ll need an email address, and you’ll be asked to create a password.
- Step 2: Confirm your email to get your account officially set up.
- Step 3: Take 30 seconds or so to create and complete your profile.
- Step 4: Start earning (more on how to make the most money, later!)
Alternatively, you can register using your Facebook, Google, Twitter or LinkedIn account.
The site also offers sign up bonuses. The exact amount varies depending on when you sign up. According to a Reddit user, they currently are giving out a $2 sign up bonus.
Right now, the site is offering initial rewards points just for signing on.
Unfortunately, as of right now, the site only has an app for Android.
Get the app:
- EranHoney app for Android
Hopefully, they will come up with an app for iPhone users soon.
Currency
EarnHoney currency, known as HoneyDollars (or HD), is becoming OPTin Coin.
During the transition, you’ll still notice references to both in various places across the site.
Here’s the exchange rate:
- One 1 HD = approximately $0.01
- 10 HD ($0.10) = approximately 1 OPTin Coin
The value of this digital currency may change as the market changes.
How to make money with EarnHoney
Log into the site and check out the current offers on the home page.
Each is displayed with a graphic, a title, and a value – how much you can earn for completing a task.
Special offers are shown in the center of the screen.
Begin clicking offers you find interesting.
There are a few ways to earn.
These include:
- Watching videos
- Trying new apps
- Playing games
- Completing offers
- Taking surveys
- Referring friends
- Sharing on social media
- Honey codes
1. Watch Videos
Yes, you can actually get paid for watching videos.
Click “Watch and Earn” to access videos, and click on the ones you want to watch.
Each link will open into a new window. Some will be direct links to the video. Others will offer specific instructions for watching and ask you to click through.
I watched a few BuzzTV videos my first time on the site.
While watching the videos, viewability circles appeared below the video, turning from red to green. According to the instructions, that indicated that I was doing everything by the book.
I watched my balance go up incrementally as I finished the videos.
It would be pretty easy to click on the videos and let them roll while you’re doing something else, as long as you can see the windows and your computer doesn’t go to sleep.
Be warned, though. If the site catches you cheating the system, that’s a one-way ticket to ban-town.
2. Try new apps
There are tons of new apps that are created and published every single day.
To get some initial traction, a lot of developers are willing to spend money on getting the word out. So they pay sites like EH to get the word out.
To give people incentive to install and try these apps, sites like EH pay you to download apps.
There are currently three mobile apps you can download to earn points.
When I checked, the three available were for Android, so I was unable to test them, unfortunately.
3. Play games
Like most other survey sites, EH also pays you to play online games.
Right now, there’s only one gave available in this section of the site – it’s called 2048.
You can earn up to 3 HD for every 10 minutes of play.
To win, slide numbered tiles on a grid to combine them and create a tile with the number 2048 on it. It’s pretty fun, actually.
But it’s not the actual gameplay that earns you points. It’s the ads that will run on the screen while you play, so make sure those are in plain view.
4. Complete offers
One of the most robust areas of the site is the offers area.
Offers you can complete for points range from clipping and printing coupons from Coupons.com to playing Final Fantasy XV on your mobile device.
Other offers can get you free goodies – everything from Popeyes chicken to Snuggle dryer sheets.
Be cautious when signing up for these offers, though. Several ask for personal information, including cell phone number.
Others require trial memberships that can actually end up costing you money if you forget to cancel.
Top offers on the site as of May 21 were:
- OfferToro
- AdGate
- Persona.ly
- TV
- Entertainment
- Health and Wellness
- Automotive
5. Give your opinion
Another way to earn on the site is to complete surveys.
You can even get points for filling out your profile, which takes about two minutes.
Check back often for more options.
6. Refer your friends
Inviting friends is an easy way to earn.
Click “Invite” and “Friends” to get your referral code. You can share this anywhere you like.
If you have a website or blog, you can embed a banner ad using an embed code from this area of the site. Talk about passive.
Any time you refer a friend, you’ll earn 10% of their lifetime earnings.
7. Share on social media
You can also invite friends by email, Facebook, Twitter, or with a referral link.
Connecting with Facebook, for example, is supposed to give you 5% back.
To make sharing even easier, you can connect your EH account with your social media accounts.
On Facebook, you are limited to four auto-posts per day but can share manually as many times as you like.
HoneyCodes
HoneyCodes are brand new to the site as of May 1 – in fact, they’re still in beta.
They are special codes that can be redeemed on the main offers page and can be found in your email, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, and other places.
Act fast when you find them – HoneyCodes are typically only active for a set period of time.
They’re typically strings of text that can be tailored for your account or for a limited number of uses. They never have spaces and are case sensitive. They are valid for a certain amount of HD.
I looked for some examples online, but couldn’t find any at the time of writing.
To redeem codes you’ve found, go to earnhoney.com and click on the HoneyCode tab at the top of the page. In the box, enter the code exactly how it appears and click OK. You’ll get a message if your code was successful.
If it wasn’t, there’s a chance the code is expired. It may also be valid only in specific browsers or on specific devices, though instructions will likely tell you if this is the case.
How much can you make?
Don’t expect to earn a ton using this site.
The payouts are mostly minimal, but it is possible to earn up to a couple dollars per day, according to some experienced users.
Most videos are worth 0.02 – 0.25 OPTin.
The highest earning rate I saw was up to 90 OPTin for exploring offers.
Like any other site, the more active you are the more you earn.
I have seen reports on Reddit and other sites, of users earning anywhere from $30 to $90 a month or more.
That’s not bad for spending a few minutes a day doing things you were probably going to do anyway.
EarnHoney Payout
You need at least 20 OPTin to cash out – about $2.
Redeem OPTin using the “Redeem” link from the homepage and choose from standard redemption, VIP redemption or Donate to Charity.
Once you hit 50 OPTin, you can cash out via PayPal or donate your $5 to a charity of your choice.
Options include:
- World Wildlife Fund
- American Red Cross
- United Way
- Salvation Army
- Food for the Poor
- St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
- Feeding America
Tips & tricks
I scoured Reddit and other online money making forums.
Here are some of the best tips and hacks that others are using to earn more on the site:
- Try opening multiple windows of the videos section and games section. As long as you can see each window, and the ads running on them, you should be able to actively earn. Be warned, though, if you earn more than 100 HD/10 OPTin per hour, you may be banned from using the site.
- Fill out your profile to earn 2 OPTin, free! The site only asks for your zip code, household earnings range, and gender.
- Create a memorable username to make your referral link easy to use, and share, share share!
- Use the share button every time you win HD/OPTin to post referral links.
- Embed theHD/OPTin widget in highly trafficked pages and profile pages you own and manage.
- Place your referral link in your email signatures.
- Participate in online communities/forums where people may be interested in HD/OPTin.
- Create a video that explains HD/OPTin and features your referral link.
- Look out for holiday bonuses on the site to earn extra HD/OPTin.
Disclaimer: We haven’t necessarily tried these, and cannot guarantee that they will work for you.
EarnHoney on Reddit
I love Reddit especially when it comes to trying to make or save more money with sites and apps.
There are so many subreddits about these apps and sites where people share how they make the most out of these opportunities.
EarnHoney is so popular on Reddit that it even has its own dedicated subreddit called r/earnhoney.
Here, users share the latest tips and hacks, as well as top money making offers.
If you do decide to join the site, I highly recommend subscribing to this subreddit (it’s free). It will help you make way more money than you could ever do on your own.
Grounds for getting banned
Doing these things will get your account banned, so – just don’t:
- Use bots or other programs, such as auto refresh or auto-watchers, on the site.
- Send referral emails to strangers. (People you know only, please!)
- Post referral links or bulletin board codes on websites that prohibit them (also, do not post them on EarnHoney’s official social media pages).
- Bribe friends to sign up under you.
- Create a video that makes false promises about rewards.
- Repost another user’s videos as your own.
- Promote web pages other than EH on EarnHoney social media.
- Post, share or distribute fake videos promoting cheats (they’re probably fake anyway!)
- Submit polls, unboxing videos and prize photos to share with the EH community.
- Submit inappropriate or offensive photos, ideas, and videos to EH pages.
- Engage in profane or hateful speech with other users or EarnHoney customer service.
- Post referral links on EH’s social media pages
- Create multiple accounts for a single user.
- Cheat on games on the site.
- Spam the site’s Facebook wall or bully fellow users.
- Spam the Rewards Store comments.
Other users’ reviews
For the most part, it sounds like the site has its ups and downs, like other survey sites.
In my research, one user – a longtime patron of passive earning sites – said the payoff from EH was impressive for an enterprise of its kind.
“Until EarnHoney, the best passive videos site I ever used would pay out about $10 every 2-3 months. EH is really exceptional.” the user wrote.
Another user boasted the ability to cash out around $5 per day through PayPal.
Other users have reported not receiving payouts for their efforts. In their defense, those users reported that their accounts had been flagged or banned at the time.
Still, others noted a lack of customer service responsiveness.
My experience
I personally did not enjoy the experience, but perhaps if I gave it more time, it would grow on me.
The site’s design feels a bit clunky and functionality seems inconsistent, even on the preferred Chrome browser.
I also feel a little wary of filling out too many offers from the site – I have enough spam in my voicemail inbox and don’t want to take the risk of getting more.
If these things don’t bother you, proceed!
Is it worth it?
EarnHoney a legit way to make extra cash, albeit not a lot. It’s a bit of a low-risk, low-reward situation.
Plenty of reviewers have had positive things to say, and the website itself has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.
If you’re looking for some extra cash, I think it’s worth a try.
You tell us.
