Are you handy with a hammer? Skilled at sweeping? A whiz at assembling furniture? TaskRabbit can help you find someone who needs nails hammered, dust swept, or any number of other jobs done.
TR offers its users, called Taskers, a chance to “Find jobs you love, at rates you choose, [and] make a schedule that fits your life.”

How to Become a Tasker on TaskRabbit?
So you want to become a Tasker? Well here’s what you’ll need to know first.
To become a Tasker, you have to:
- Be 18 or older.
- Pass a background check.
- Live in one of the active cities they list here.
- Have a checking account with a financial institution.
- Have a valid credit card.
- Own a smartphone.
- Pay a one-time registration fee of $25.
To join, follow these simple steps:
- Step 1: click here to register for an account. You’ll need to fill out personal information and set up a direct deposit to your bank account, so make sure you have all the information you need while signing up.
- Step 2: Attend an info setting. Once they decide to hire you, they’ll set you up with an orientation meeting near you. This will allow you to meet staff, ask questions in person, and get some tips on how to be a task rabbit.
- Step 3: Download the app. This is important because you’ll need the app to find jobs.
- Step 4: Accept the job you want, follow through on the job, and get paid! It’s that easy.
You’ll also have to make sure you have a nice photo of yourself to use for your Tasker profile. The company has a useful guide on their site to make sure your picture is top-notch!
How Does TaskRabbit Work?
Once you’ve signed up and set up your Tasker profile, just download the app and get to work! You’ll be able to find jobs in your area, set the times during which you’ll be available to work and edit your profile if you like.
You’ll be notified of tasks in your area, and can freely choose the ones you want to do.
The most popular types of jobs on the app are:
- Furniture assembly
- Personal assistant
There are many more types of jobs you can do though. Check out the full list here.
How Does TaskRabbit Pay Taskers?
TaskRabbit is a gig economy app, which means payment is offered on a per-task basis. Clients pay Taskers through Stripe, a third-party payment processor.
Usually, the payment is approved 24 hours after the task has been finished, after which it’ll take three to five business days to show up in your bank account.
How much you get paid obviously varies on how many jobs you take on, what you charge for your services, and when you work. To give you a good idea on what you could make, though, here are some of their average pays per job type:
- Assembly of table/desk: $55 to $144
- Mount a TV or mirror: $60 to $129
- Move boxes via truck: $54 to $141
- Clean bathroom or kitchen: $65 to $140
- Fix a toilet: $58 to $136
- Office or home delivery: $26 to $68
- Carrying furniture up stairs: $46 to $106
- Plant flowers: $47 to $141
The Tasker App
The Tasker app is the hub through which you access all TaskRabbit’s features.
Downloading it is the first step on your road to being a Tasker.
The app can be downloaded from:
Starting the app up, you’ll be greeted by the “Home” tab, which allows you to:
- Set your same-day preferences.

- Keep track of how your business is doing.
Next is the “Tasks” tab, which can help you keep track of your current and past tasks.
After that is the “Availability” tab, which lets you set when you can work. Busy during certain times? Don’t feel like working on Mondays? Block them out here.
The “My Business” tab is next, which allows you to:
- Add the skills you have.
- Edit your particular set of skills.
- Monitor your business’ earnings and other metrics.
Finally, you’ll come to the “Profile” tab, where you can:

- Promote yourself.
- Edit your closing statements to Clients.
Commonly Asked Questions
Here are some of the questions that most people interested in working with this company have.
What kind of jobs are on TaskRabbit?
TR has all kinds of categories of Tasks on it, from carpentry to event staffing, even waiting in line is a job you can be paid to do! You can find a full list of Task categories here.
How does TaskRabbit make money?
Along with your hourly rate, Clients are charged a TR Service Fee, which amounts to 15% of the total price the client pays.
Is TaskRabbit safe?
Physical safety is a whole other ballgame. As an independent contractor (you will be filing taxes on your earnings as a sole-proprietor business), there are no guaranteed protections for you.
Taskers are able to interact with your clients through the app before going out on a job, however, which allows them to avoid any potentially sketchy clients.
How much is TaskRabbit hourly?
As discussed above, the hourly rate of each Task varies, depending on difficulty.
Is TaskRabbit in my city?
To find out if TR is near you, check out this list of cities they are located in.
Will I be background checked?
All Taskers are required to enter their Social Security Number, which is used to do a criminal background check.
This is done to ensure the confidence of their Clients in who they’re entrusting with access to their home or business.
Can I be a virtual-only tasker?
TaskRabbit is more of a platform for tasks requiring the physical presence of the assigned Tasker. In order to be a Tasker in a city, you have to live in that city.
Reviews & Ratings
Before signing up to work here, you might want to check out what other users have said about their experiences.
Here are some reviews I found that help give you a good idea of what it’s like.
“Some of the smaller delivery tasks aren’t worth it for me at $17.50 but I do skilled labor, carpentry, and those tasks are usually upwards of $40 an hour. Now it has only set price tasks that you can either accept or decline, and the compensation seems to have gone way down. They can take up to a 30% cut now when it used to be only 20%,” said a Reddit user.
“I task mostly outside DC and have made at least a few hundred dollars in the short time I’ve been tasking. So far my experience with TaskRabbit has been positive, deposits are made in a timely manner, although not instant and it’s a nice way to get some extra spending cash.” said another Reddit user.
“I did TaskRabbit for two months in grad school and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. First month was great, got a bunch of gigs. Most of them were fairly easy and paid well. However, at the start of the second month they raised their cut of your pay to nearly a fourth and this coincided with me losing my new Tasker status and preferential place in the list of taskers.” said a Reddit reviewer.
Better Business Bureau
The first thing that should be noted is that TaskRabbit is accredited by the BBB. That means that the company makes an effort to resolve customer complaints and monitors their BBB profile for any complaints that occur. They also pay a fee to the BBB to be listed as accredited and to be checked by the organization for good business practices.
According to the BBB, TR has been open for twelve years. In that time, they have earned themselves an A+ rating due to their handling of customer complaints. Keep in mind, that this rating only applies to their complaint management and not their reviews.
127 complaints were lodged against TaskRabbit in the past three years. Of those, 62 of them were closed within the past 12 months. The majority of complaints were made by customers who didn’t agree with the bill they received or didn’t like the service they received. Very few of them seem to be made by people who worked at TR.
If you want to know more, check out what the BBB has to say about this company.
Pros and Cons
Some positive things about using TaskRabbit are:
- You can set your own schedule.
- You can choose what jobs you do.
- You choose the hourly rate you’re paid.
Some negatives about TaskRabbit are:
- You’re a contractor, not a full employee.
- You have to provide your own insurance.
- How much you earn can depend on how many jobs are available in your area.
So is TaskRabbit Worth It?
After reading all this, It’s clear that TaskRabbit may not be for everyone.
If you’re a skilled laborer looking to fill their schedule in between jobs or a stay-at-homer trying to pick up a little extra on the side without compromising your other responsibilities, TaskRabbit may be for you!
However, if you’re looking for a secure, full-time position with benefits, you’d best look elsewhere. And if you’re looking for under the table jobs that pay cash, this isn’t for you since everything is documented!
The main promise of TaskRabbit, like other gig-economy jobs (like Fiverr), is the ability to control your own schedule and work when you want. If that’s worth the potential drawbacks to you, then go for it!
I hope this review of TaskRabbit has helped you decide whether or not it’s a good site/app for you to use to earn extra money on the side.
