Online Jobs for 16-year-olds
If you’re 16 and looking for a job, you’ve probably come across a lot of jobs that involve working with the public, like being a cashier at Walmart or serving coffee at Starbucks. But, what about working online? Are there any jobs for 16-year-olds online?
Yes!
There are plenty of jobs you can do online as a teenager.
Working online is great because you get to work from home. There’s no commute! What’s great about online jobs is that they often offer a lot of flexibility, so if you’re busier with school during a certain week, then you can ease up on your online work, and if you have a little more free time during another week, then you can take on more online work.
There are lots of great online jobs for teenagers. Sure, some websites will only allow people who’re 18 to apply for jobs, but many will allow 16-year-olds to sign up.
79. Tutor
- Average pay: $23 an hour
- Pay range: $10 to $44 an hour
Working as a tutor is a great way for teenagers to make extra money. You get paid to tutor people online. You can tutor a variety of subjects from math to English. You can find online tutoring jobs for teens on the following websites:
- Tutorpeers: Teenagers aged 13 to 18 can tutor people on Tutorpeers. And you can tutor in a variety of subjects like Math, World Languages, and Chemistry.
- Fiverr: Fiver is an online marketplace where freelancers can earn money selling services, like tutoring. You can charge anywhere from $5 to $10,000 for a service there. You can sign up to Fiverr at just 13 years old.
- Craigslist: You can offer freelance services, including tutoring on Craigslist. It’s not particularly clear what the actual age requirement is for a person to be able to use Craigslist. Some websites claim that you have to be 18 years old and that this age requirement is mentioned in Craigslist’s Terms of Service. After looking through the company’s Terms of Use (TOU) and Privacy Policy, I couldn’t find an exact number. I actually went through the process of posting on CL. I didn’t publish the post, but from what I could tell, CL didn’t ask me any questions about my age. So, it does seem as though anyone can submit a post there.
- Facebook Marketplace: Although most people know Facebook Marketplace as a site where you can buy and sell stuff like books, clothes, and furniture, you can also sell tutoring services on there. You can offer online tutoring gigs on Facebook Marketplace. You’ll read different things in different places online about the age requirement to use Facebook Marketplace. I’ve seen people on Reddit mention that you need to be 18 years old, but I couldn’t confirm that to be true on the FB website. You need to have a Facebook account to sell on the Facebook Marketplace, and on the Facebook Terms page, it says that you cannot use Facebook if you’re under 13 years old. This indicates that those who’re 13 years old or older can use Facebook and therefore, Facebook Marketplace.
- Indeed: You can also find tutoring jobs for teenagers on Indeed. There are a lot of tutoring jobs available on indeed, and some of them allow teenagers to apply. Of course, not all jobs are open to teenagers of all ages, but some of them are, so it’s worth browsing job openings there.

So, choose a topic, do some keyword research, and then you can start uploading content. Although you won’t make money from your blog right away, blogging is something that can be really profitable once you build up traffic to your website.
There are lots of ways to make money from a blog, including:
- Ads
- Affiliate links

Anyone over the age of 13 years old can use Etsy. But, if you’re under 18, you must get the permission and direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian who is the owner of the account. If you can get your parent’s or legal guardian’s approval, then all you need are some great products to sell!
You could sell vintage items that you find at the thrift store or even crafts that you have made. Or, if you’re good at painting or drawing, then you could sell artwork there. The site is mostly focused on handmade, refurbished, and antique items.

Once you have enough views, you can become a YouTube Partner, and earn money from the ads on your videos.
The YouTube Partner program pays you through AdSense, but, as I mentioned earlier, you cannot get an AdSense account until you’re 18. If you are under 18 years old though, you can still monetize your videos by linking your YouTube account to an approved AdSense account of a parent or guardian who is over 18.
Aside from ads, you can also make money by partnering with brands to create sponsored content. YouTube can be pretty vague about how much money its content creators actually earn. But, figures online suggest that for every 1,000 views their videos get, YouTubers earn from $0.25 to $7. And you get paid through an AdSense account.
86. Survey participant
- Pay varies
Another option is to participate in paid surveys. Now, this isn’t a job per se, but it does give you a way to make some extra money online. What’s great about surveys is that you can do them whenever you have some downtime.
A lot of survey websites require you to be 18 years old to join, but there are sites that allow those under 18 to sign up and start making money.
Here are some survey websites that 16-year-olds can use:
87. Reward site participant
- Pay varies
Another option you can try is doing tasks on reward websites. Now, this isn’t really a job in the traditional sense, but it is a way for you to make money online as a teenager. You could make some extra cash to spend on whatever it is you want, or you could save the money you earn.
Reward websites pay you for doing a variety of tasks online, like:
- Playing games
- Watching videos
- Browsing the internet
- Shopping online
- Reading emails
- Taking surveys
You likely already do many of those tasks anyway, so this is such a good way to make money. Reward websites pay you with cash right to PayPal and you can get gift cards too.
Many reward websites require users to be 18 in order to sign up, but there are some sites out there that allow those who’re as young as 13 to sign up.
Here are some reward websites that you can use if you’re 16 years old:
Side hustles for 16-year-olds

Side hustles allow you to make some extra money alongside school.
Now, please note that with these side hustles, it’s best to get work from people you or your parents know.
Sure, the internet is a good place to find jobs. For example, the options I gave above in the jobs for 16-year-olds online are all great because they allow you to work from home.
With side hustles though, they involve meeting with people in person, and meeting people from the internet that you don’t know can have safety issues. That’s why, as I said, it’s best to work for people that you or your parents know.
Here are some side hustle jobs for 16-year-olds.
