There are plenty of companies that offer jobs to 16-year-olds. What’s great is that many of them offer part-time jobs for 16-year-olds and seasonal jobs too. So, you can find working hours that suit you.
Please note that companies may not offer jobs to 16-year-olds in every state. A retailer may offer jobs to 16-year-olds in one state, but not in another. So, it’s always a good idea to check with your local restaurant, store, or another retailer to see what the minimum age requirement for employees is at that particular location.
Also, although a company may hire 16-year-olds, it may only do so for some roles, and others may require you to be 18 years old. So, make sure that you check with the company to see which roles within the company are available to those who are 16.
Here are companies that you can work with if you’re 16.
1. Albertsons
There are more than 2,200 Albertsons stores in the United States. Although for the alcohol section you have to be 21, most other positions only require you to be 16. So, if you are looking for a job at the grocery store, Albertsons is a good option.
2. AMC Theatres
AMC Theatres has more than 380 locations. In some states, the company hires 16-year-olds. Actually, it even hires 15-year-olds and 14-year-olds. The theater has lots of different jobs available for teens, like ticket selling, working at the snack bar, cleaning, ticket collecting, and being an usher.
Check with your local theater to see if it has any job openings for 16-year-olds.
3. Arby’s
Arby’s has more than 3,000 locations across the United States. Your responsibilities could include preparing food, serving customers, cleaning, and taking orders.
4. Baskin Robbins

Some locations hire 16-year-olds, and even 15-year-olds, if it’s permitted under local laws. Check with your local store to see the minimum hiring age. If your local store does hire 16-year-olds, then you could be hired as a host/hostess. It will be your job to seat guests and deal with waiting customers.

Casey’s General Stores is a chain of convenience stores located in the Midwestern and Southern United States. There are 2,146 Casey’s stores in 16 states. You could get a job at Casey’s if you’re 16. In fact, the company says:

13. Cub Foods
Cub Foods has more than 100 stores in Minnesota and Illinois. You only have to be 16 years old to work there. So, if you have a Cub Foods store near you, then you could consider getting a job there.

20. Hannaford
Hannaford is a supermarket that has more than 180 stores in New England and New York, and it has a pharmacy too. The minimum age to work for the front-end and produce departments at the store is 16. You’ll need to be 18 to work in some departments, though, such as the bakery, deli, and meat department.
21. Harris Teeter
Harris Teeter is an American supermarket chain that operates 261 stores in seven South Atlantic states and the District of Columbia. It’s another supermarket chain that hires 16-year-olds.
22. Harvey’s
There are 46 Harvey’s supermarket locations in the United States, so that’s not quite as many as some of the other companies on the list, but you may have a store near you. If you live in Georgia, you’ll likely have a store near you because there are 29 Harvey’s locations in Georgia, which is 63% of all Harvey’s locations in the U.S.
Jobs at the store can include things like bagger, cashier associate, or grocery store associate.
Some stores hire 16-year-olds or 15-year-olds. But many stores will only hire people who are 18 or older. So, do check with your local store to see what its minimum hiring age is.
23. Hershey’s Chocolate World
Next on the list we have Hershey’s Chocolate World. Hershey’s Chocolate World is located in the same complex as Hersheypark, but both operate independently of each other.
Hersheypark is owned by Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company (HE&R), and Hershey’s Chocolate World is owned by The Hershey Company. However, The Hershey Company and HE&R are both owned by the Hershey Trust Company.
Because Hershey’s Chocolate World and Hersheypark are operated independently and have separate websites, I’ve listed them separately.
You can get jobs at Hershey’s Chocolate World at 16 years old. Candidates can be as young as 15. But, the minimum age requirement varies depending on the position. You can view the age requirement on the job posting.

24. Hersheypark
Hersheypark is a family theme park that’s located in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
The company hires 16-year-olds. In fact, it even has a section of jobs just for 14 to 15-year-olds, so people as young as 14 can find work at Hersheypark.
There are jobs available in a variety of fields too, like retail, food and beverage, and lifeguard jobs.
You get lots of benefits too, like free admission to Hersheypark, free tickets for family and friends, and discounts at Hersheypark.
25. Hy-Vee
Hy-Vee ranks among the top 25 supermarket chains in the United States. It has more than 260 supermarkets throughout the country with stores located in eight Midwestern states. You can find Hy-Vee stores in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
The minimum age to work at most Hy-Vee stores is 16. Some stores hire people as young as 14 because many Hy-Vee stores are independently operated and are able to set their own policies. Ask at your local store what the minimum age requirement is for employees.
26. Jewel-Osco
Jewel-Osco is a supermarket chain. It has 188 stores across Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana. The store offers jobs to 16-year-olds.
27. KFC
There are more than 3,900 KFC restaurants in the United States. The restaurant chain hires teenagers, so you could get a job at your local restaurant. Your responsibilities can include things like customer service and cleaning.
28. King Soopers
King Soopers has 117 stores in the United States, and 116 of them are in Colorado. King Soopers is a supermarket brand of Kroger that’s located in the Rocky Mountains, where it has a significant presence on the Eastern Slope.
So, this store differs from the others on the list in that pretty much all of its locations are found in just one state, Colorado. If you live in Colorado, then consider working at King Soopers. King Soopers has jobs for 16-year-olds, and it even hires people as young as 15.
29. Kroger
Kroger is another grocery store that offers jobs for 16-year-olds. There are more than 2,700 Kroger locations throughout the United States, so you may have a store near you where you can find work. Jobs include things like bagger and stocker.
30. McDonald’s
McDonald’s has more than 13,000 locations in the United States, so it’s highly likely that you have a location near you. This makes it a good place to find work if you’re a teenager.
McDonald’s hires 16-year-olds, and it even hires people as young as 14. There are lots of jobs available, including cleaning, cooking, serving customers, and working in the drive-thru.
Although restaurant franchises have varying policies on the age requirements for employees, many hire teens in states that allow it.
31. Meijer
Meijer is a family-owned regional retailer based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The company has more than 240 supercenters in six states: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Meijer offers jobs to those who are 16 years old.

There are more than 15,700 Starbucks stores in the United States. The minimum hiring age at most Starbucks is 16, so you may be able to find a job at your local coffeehouse.
42. Stop & Shop
There are more than 400 Stop & Shop stores throughout the United States. The areas it serves include New England, Downstate New York, and New Jersey. So, if you live in any of those areas, you may have a store near you where you can find work. The hiring age at Stop & Shop is 16 years old. There are many positions available, including grocery clerk, bakery clerk, and floral clerk.

There are more than 22,000 Subway restaurants in the United States. You can find work at Subway if you are 16 years old. You could work as a sandwich artist at your local Subway restaurant.

There are 1,926 Target stores across the United States. For Target store jobs, you only need to be 16, so you could work in your local Target store.

Tops Friendly Markets operates 160 full-service supermarkets, including five operated by franchisees under the Tops banner, along with 59 fuel stations. It has stores in New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. You can work as a cashier at Tops Friendly Markets when you’re 16 years old.

Walgreens has 9,021 stores in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, so it’s likely you’ll have a store near you where you can find work. Walgreens offers some jobs to teenagers who are 16 or older.

There are 4,743 Walmart stores in the United States. The minimum hiring age at Walmart is 16, so you could get a job at Walmart if you’re a teenager. While many jobs are available to those who are 16, certain positions require a minimum age of 18. So, check to see the age requirement for the specific role that you’re applying for at Walmart.
50. Wegmans
Wegmans is a regional supermarket chain that has 104 stores across the country. The company has stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, and North Carolina. If you live in one of those states, you may have a Wegmans store near you where you can find work as a teenager.

The minimum hiring age at Zaxby’s is 16 years old, so you may be able to get a job at your local restaurant. In certain locations, Zaxby’s hires at 15. Just check with your local Zaxby’s to see what the hiring age is for the restaurant.

As you can see from our list above, there are many companies that offer jobs for 16-year-olds. But those aren’t your only options for finding work as a teenager. Most cities have entertainment venues, events, and recreation centers that aren’t operated by the major companies I’ve included in the list above.
So, your city or town probably has a lot of places that offer jobs to those who are 16. In this section, I’ll include a few more options where you can find work.

Best Online Jobs for 16-Year-Olds to Earn Money from Home
If you’re 16 and looking for a job, you’ve probably come across many roles that involve working with the public, like being a cashier at Walmart or serving coffee at Starbucks. But what about working online? Are there jobs for 16-year-olds available online?
Yes!
There are plenty of online jobs for teenagers.
Working online is fantastic because you get to work from home. No commute! Online jobs often provide a lot of flexibility, so if you’re busier with school one week, you can reduce your workload. And if you have more free time the following week, you can take on more tasks.
There are lots of great online jobs for teenagers. While some websites only allow people who are 18 or older to apply, many platforms accept 16-year-olds.
79. Tutor

- Pay range: $10 to $44 an hour
Working as a tutor is a great way for teenagers to make extra money. You get paid to tutor people online in a variety of subjects, from math to English. You can find online tutoring jobs for teens on the following websites:
- Tutorpeers: Teenagers aged 13 to 18 can tutor people on Tutorpeers. You can tutor in subjects like Math, World Languages, and Chemistry.
- Fiverr: Fiverr is an online marketplace where freelancers can sell services, including tutoring. You can charge anywhere from $5 to $10,000 for a service. You can sign up for Fiverr at just 13 years old.
- Craigslist: You can offer freelance services, including tutoring, on Craigslist. Although it’s not completely clear what the age requirement is, some sources suggest you need to be 18. However, after reviewing Craigslist’s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, I couldn’t find an explicit age requirement. When I attempted to post, Craigslist didn’t ask for my age, suggesting that it may be open to users of all ages.
- Facebook Marketplace: Although it’s mainly known for buying and selling items like books and furniture, Facebook Marketplace also allows you to offer tutoring services. You can post online tutoring gigs here. While some online sources claim you need to be 18, Facebook’s Terms of Service state that you can use Facebook if you’re 13 years or older, which implies you can use Facebook Marketplace at 13.
- Indeed: You can find tutoring jobs for teenagers on Indeed. Many tutoring jobs are available, some of which accept teen applicants. Not all jobs are open to teenagers of every age, but it’s worth browsing the listings.
80. Freelance Writer
