- free money for college
- free money from crowdfunding sites
- etc
But one of the easiest ways is taking advantage of bonuses and promotional offers that many companies offer.
Think bonus for opening a new savings/checking account, bonus for applying for a new credit card, etc.
In 2015, companies spent nearly $600 billion worldwide in advertising, with a big portion of it going to giving new customers bonuses for signing up.
This is basically free money for you.

Legit Ways to Get Free Money
Now, getting a small $5 bonus from a company doesn’t sound like much, but combine that with the money being given by more companies and you’ve got yourself hundreds and even thousands of dollars.
Now finding companies that essentially giveaway free money is hard, but you don’t have to do that!
I did the work and found you a few dozens or so sites, apps, credit cards, banks and other companies that offer free cash.
If there ever was “free money loopholes and secrets”, these would be it!

This means that the 30,000 bonus, works out at about $300 in flights or gift cards.

Free Money from the Government
Whether it’s for low-income families or senior citizens, there are dozens of government-sponsored programs that provide free money.
And, the amazing thing is that most people don’t know about them.
After all, who’d think that the government would be offering free cash?
So, below, we’ve listed some government programs that provide free money.
45. Unclaimed Pension Benefits
In your working life, you might have been an employee at a company that went bust or was acquired by another company.
In situations like that, we tend to leave the job behind and look for a new one, giving little thought to the pension plans we were previously associated with.
This means that you, like many people in the United States, could be owed pension benefits.
According to the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation, there are more than 38,000 people who haven’t claimed the pension benefits that they are entitled to.
And, these unclaimed pensions amount to more than $300 million dollars!
The Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation (PBCG) is a U.S. Government Agency.
On the website, you can search a huge database for unclaimed pensions.
You can see whether there’s a pension plan that you might have overlooked or one that you were previously associated to that owes you money.
Here’s how to search for any money owed to you:
- Step 1: Go to https://www.pbgc.gov/search/unclaimed-pensions.
- Step 2: In the search box, enter your name or the name of any company you’ve ever worked with and hit “Search.”
- Step 3: Click on your name (if the displayed results shows it.)
- Step 4: The next page will tell you how to contact them to get the money owed to you.
You can also call PBGC by dialing 1-800-326-LOST)
Or you can fill out the form displayed on that page and hit “Submit.”
According to the site, you could get between twelve cents to almost a million dollars in unclaimed pension benefits.
Make sure that you check out the PBCG.gov to see if you’re missing out on an unclaimed pension.
46. Unclaimed Money
Like most people, you probably have a lot going on between work, chores and spending time with your family.
So, it’s easy to forget that you put money in a checking account that you haven’t used in over a year, or into a utility security deposit before you moved.
There’s a great website called Unclaimed.org. It’s designed to return unclaimed money to you.
On the website, you can find out if you are owed any unclaimed money. Handily enough, you can search by state.
The website claims that state government unclaimed property agencies have returned more than $3 billion!
Here’s how to search for missing money:
- Step 1: Go to https://www.unclaimed.org and click on your state name (this will take you to your local (state) governments’s official site.
- Step 2: From there you can enter your name and search for anything owed to you.
If you have lived in a few states or would rather search on the federal level, you can use MissingMoney.com (a National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators backed site) to search.
47. Free Cash to Help with Buying or Renting a Home
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides support in a variety of home ownership and rental matters.
It aids in buying, selling, renting or repairing homes.
The website is a great resource for any home owner or tenant, as there’s such a wealth of expert advice on there.
But, that’s not all.
In some cases, it provides real cash for things like down payments and closing costs.
For example, on a page dedicated to rental assistance programs, there’s information about the Housing Choice Voucher Program. This voucher can be used to pay for part or all of your rent.
To find out more about the type of informational and financial assistance offered by HUD, make sure that you check out HUD.org.
48. Money to Help Avoid Foreclosure
If you’re struggling to keep up with your mortgage payments and are facing foreclosure, then you might want to check out the Home Ownership Preservation Foundation, aptly called HOPE.
This website helps people to stay in their homes.
Unfortunately, an increasing number of people have been affected by foreclosure in the last decade, and although the housing market has recovered in many parts of the country, several areas and states are still struggling.
If you are facing this issue, then HOPE is definitely a website to visit.
It can help you to pay for your mortgage and set up a plan for you.
Call the organization on 888-995-HOPE, or visit it’s website at 995HOPE.org.
49. Free or Low-Cost Health Insurance for Kids
The cost of your children’s health insurance can really put a dent in your finances.
Fortunately, a website called InsureKidsNow.org helps parents to find low cost health and dental coverage through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
Through these organizations, you can get free or low cost check-ups, immunizations, hospital care, mental health services, prescriptions, doctor and dental visits and more for your children.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Step 1: Go to https://www.insurekidsnow.gov.
- Step 2: Under “Find Coverage for Your Family” select your state and hit “view state.””
- Step 3: The next page will display available low-cost or free health insurance programs in your area and how to get them.
You can also call the organization on 1-877-KIDS-NOW (1-877-543-7669).
50. Free Money for College
The cost of college tuition can be astronomical.
Fortunately, Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education, gives qualifying students free cash to complete their education.
I actually wrote a post about getting free money for college a while back.
The program works through Federal Pell Grants.
Only undergraduate students who haven’t earned a bachelor’s or professional degree are usually awarded the grant.
The Federal Pell Grant isn’t like a loan – you don’t have to repay it.
Of course the amount you get won’t pay for your entire tuition, but it’s free cash to put towards your education.
The amount the grant offers changes from year to year.
In the July 1 2017 to June 30 2018 award year, the maximum Federal Pell Grant Award is $5,920.
You might not get the maximum amount though.
How much you get depends on factors, like your:
- Cost of attendance.
- Status as a full-time or part-time student.
- Financial need.
- Plans to attend college for a full academic year or less.
Check out the website to learn more about this grant, how it works and how to apply.
51. Free Cash for making your home energy efficient
If you’re willing to make your home a little more energy efficient, then you could get free money from the government.
Getting your home properly insulated and doing things, like installing storm windows and weather-stripping, can make your home more energy-efficient. And, it can reduce the cost of your energy bills.
But, making your home a little more energy efficient could also net you up to $2,500 from the government.
The US Department of Energy has a plan called the Weatherization Assistance Program.
It gives out cash incentives to anyone who makes their home more energy efficient.
It operates on the premise that the government will give out cash incentives for anyone willing to make his or her home more energy efficient.
52. Save $100 on your Tax Return
Doing your taxes can be stressful, and paying a tax professional for help can cost at least $100.
That’s why you might want to check out an initiative from the IRA, called VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance).
It helps people who earn a low income to prepare their tax returns.
This saves you money on paying someone to do the tax return for you.
For more details on the initiative, visit the website, or call 1-800-829-1040.
53. Free Advice on Starting Business
Like with the tax service above, this one doesn’t literally give you free money.
But, it does give you a service that you would usually have to pay for, free of charge.
So, essentially, you’re stilling getting free money!
If you’ve ever thought about starting a business, you probably know how expensive it is to get professional business help and advice.
That’s where the government’s Small Business Development Centers can be so helpful.
There are 900 of these centers across the country. The centers offer free advice and technical assistance to small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs.
It offers advice on all facets of starting and operating a business, including the development of business plans, market research, taxes, operations, and contracts, for example.
This program can save you thousands of dollars on professional business advice.
Visit the U.S. Small Business Administration’s website to find a center near you.
54. Repair your Credit Rating for Free
Many of us would like to improve our credit score, and we could all use some help with it.
But, this help can be costly!
That’s why the Federal Trade Commission is such a valuable, dependable resource.
On FTC’s Credit Repair page you can find out about your rights, and a wealth of other information on credit repair.
And, it’s all totally free!
Free Money for Transferring Your Prescription
Pharmacies are always looking for a competitive advantage.
And one of the ways they try to get ahead of the competition is by offering free gift cards and cash to customers for transferring their prescription to them.
Here are two pharmacies that offer prescription transfer bonuses right now:
55. Safeway – $75
Safeway is offering up to $75 in gift cards when you transfer your prescription to them.
56. RideAid – $25
RideAid will give you $25 wellness+ BonusCash within 24 hours of you transferring your prescription to them.
By the way, most pharmacies offer coupons and bonuses for transferring your prescription. It’s just that they are not available all year round.
Walgreens, Walmart, Target, and CVS have been offering prescription transfer bonuses and coupons for some time. So be sure to keep an eye on them so when the offer pops up you don’t miss it.
And yes, there is nothing to stop you from transferring your prescription to a few pharmacies one after another, though it would be time consuming and since each have certain restrictions, I don’t think it would be worth the headache.
That said, if you’re looking for a better or closer pharmacy, take advantage of these offers and get yourself some free gift cards, coupons and cash for doing something you were going to do anyway.
Free Money from Class Action Lawsuits
Finally, another way that you might get your hands on free money is through class action lawsuits.
If you need money fast and free, this won’t work since it takes months (in some cases longer) for them to process things, but it is 100% free money nonetheless.
With class action lawsuits, legal action is filed against a defendant by a group of people.
For example, a group of consumers might bring a class action lawsuit against a company that had sold them a defective product or falsely advertised a product.
These types of lawsuits are designed for situations where a group of people have suffered similar injuries as a result of the defendant’s product or actions.
Below, we’ve outlined a few websites where you can look for them.
57. Top Class Actions
Top Class Actions is a website founded in 2008. It’s designed to help consumers to find and submit claims, and earn compensation from them.
This is a really great website that offers a huge wealth of information and up to date news on class action lawsuits.
58. Consumer Action
This is another good website for finding information on class action lawsuits.
The website features a large database of notable class actions.
Using the websites, you can learn more, and file a claim.
59. ClassAction.org
This website features an up-to-date list of open lawsuits and investigations.
You’ll also find news on the site too. Overall, it’s a great resource for consumers.
Final Thoughts
I hope you guys enjoyed reading this list.
And more importantly, I hope you’ve found a few ways that you can use to get some free cash.
Sure, not every single one of these options applies to you…
But here’s the thing…
Even if you take advantage of a few of these, you can get an easy few hundreds dollars worth for free money.
I’d especially take advantage of offers from products and sites that you are going to use anyway. For example, if you shop online, you may as well go through a cashback site and get some rebates. And if you’re going to do that, then join a cashback site that gives you sign up bonus.
Or, if you’re going to open a new bank account or a credit card, you may as well go with a bank or credit card company with sign up bonus.
And if none of that appeals to you, at least search for missing money on sites we mentioned above. It takes seconds to search and you never know how much money may be out there waiting for you to claim.
How Do You Get Money for Free?
Have you ever used any of these sites to get free money?
What other ways, if any, have you used to get totally free money?
Leave a comment below and let me know.

I am sorry, I am not sure if I understand what you are talking about. Would you mind explaining what you mean?
columban
Iam from papua new guinea which one can be easy for mr
Satrap
Columban, I am not sure which of these are available in your country. I know that most survey and reward sites only accept members from a few western countries. But I would imagine some of the credit card offers would be a good fit for you. But please be sure to read each offer’s terms before applying. Good luck and I am sorry if my answer isn’t helpful enough.
Chris
Really how so? I like Columbia and money.

Hi, can you confirm that the offers you’ve posted work?
I was thinking of signing up with Salem Five eOne checking today, and was wondering if you were able to get the $100 Visa rewards card after meeting the conditions. Thanks in advance for your help
Satrap
Hi Faith,
I haven’t tried every single one of these offers. That said, Salem is a well-known and trusted company and if you do meet the requirements they will give you the reward. Hope this helps.

Those 5$ bonus sign up are not free you have to do a payed site to reseve it and also have somewhere of 25$ or more to release your money. I call on your bs…….
Satrap
Actually, they are free. And how is it BS, if I already mentioned the fact that you have to reach the minimum cash out requirement before you can withdraw that $5?
And the $5 are free since you are credited that $5 without doing any offer.
Philip
I am a Nigerian living in Nigeria.
Which of these are open to Nigerians?
Satrap
Unfortunately, most of these options are only available to American and folks from a few western countries.

In reality, survey sites are a poor use of time for anyone looking to earn money. Swagbucks used to be good for this, but then everyone started flooding Swagbucks with the promise of easy money. Now barely anyone can qualify for surveys – and even worse, often Swagbucks will allow you to complete the entire survey, but at the 99% complete point will kick you out and say “Sorry, you didn’t qualify.” And they walk away with all of your survey answers which they didn’t have to give you any points for. Searches barely result in any points anymore either: I used to get points for about every fifth search and was able to get a couple $5 Amazon gift cards a month. I gave it another shot recently and used the Swagbucks search exclusively for a week and didn’t get one single point. The main thing Swagbucks is useful for is earning points for shopping that you were already planning on doing – but as they’re constantly requiring more and more points for smaller and smaller denomination gift cards, I find I get the most out of Ebates.
In short, don’t waste hundreds of hours completing surveys and watching videos just to earn at most 15 cents. Anyone who tells you grand tales of buying all their Christmas presents with their Swagbucks earning is only trying to get you to click on their referral link so they can finally get something out of Swagbucks (ehem).
Satrap
Thanks for sharing your experience, Jordan. Yes, eBates is proving to be a great site for cash back shopping.

Thank you Jordan for this information. I have been looking for a place to help save/earn cash since I am a single father on minimum wage, with 2 children, and while paying school loans with 25% intrest.
Sally Smith
I know where you are coming from…I have entered just about every survey program…same thing has happened to me…I spend 30 minutes doing a survey only to be told that I did not qualify…after they got all my info!!! I do not even bother with them any more…
musabe
Thanks am in Uganda how can I benefit
Satrap
Unfortunately, none of these offers are not available in your country.

anything I can do to help pay my bills. Now as you know, with 3 children I don’t have a lot of time for the surveys and things like that especially if there’s not much of a payout or only earning points therefore if anyone has any pointers or recomendation on which of the best ones or even if someone knows of a real job for single moms to do at home that really pay and are not a gimmick then please let me know I would very highly appreciate it and thanks so much for this site. I’m a high school graduate, never failed a grade in my life, I went to college to be certified in computer technology/ web design(achieved certification) , & went back to attend college to aim for my associate’s degree in computer science engineer which I’m still currently trying to obtain. Being certified and educated I should have a great job at the moment but just goes to show how hard times are for a single mother and trying to take care of childcare also .
Satrap
I am so sorry you’re having such difficulties. You are right, these days, having a college degree is no guarantee for a job. Hope things get better.
