1. Look out for promotions from computer stores
Computer stores sometimes give away mouse pads to customers.
Usually these mouse pads are a promotional item, so they include things like the computer store’s name, logo, and website address. These promotional pads are usually given away as a freebie alongside another item or as gifts during major sales.
So if you’re buying something anyway, then you could ask if the store has any mouse pad freebies available.
With online stores, including the best online tech deal sites linked below) you can often get these free mouse pads during Black Friday or other special sales. Just make sure that you follow these stores on social media or subscribe to their newsletters so you can keep up to date with promotions.

Is it Ok to Use a Mouse without a Mouse Pad?
Not really!
You really do need a mouse pad.
Sure, technically you can use a mouse without a pad. But it’s not ideal. If you care about your mouse and the item it sits on, like your desk or table, then you’ll want to use a mouse pad.
Here’s why:
- It’s good for your mouse. Your mouse has smooth flat bits on the bottom, called “feet.” These are low-friction sliding pads that allow your mouse to slide around while keeping your mouse from continuing to move around after you’ve removed your hand. These mouse feet can get scratched or dirty if you don’t use a mouse pad. Using a pad stops this from happening and keeps your mouse moving smoother for longer.
- It’s better for the desk or table. Using a mouse directly on a table or desk can cause the wood or whatever material it is made from to become worn and scratched. To keep your furniture in good condition, you’ll want to use a mouse pad.
- It makes the mouse perform better: Using a mouse pad allows the cursor to smoothly track across your screen because it provides a level, consistent surface. If you want to make sure your mouse performs optimally, which is especially true for gamers, then you’ll definitely need to use a mouse pad.
