Free or Cheap Halloween Costumes: Tips
Unfortunately, nobody is actually giving away free costumes but there are a few tips you can use to get them for practically free.
Use HauntedClassifieds
HauntedClassifieds is basically the Craigslist of Halloween related stuff. You can buy and sell anything related to this holiday.
As with any classified site, you can often find great deals.
Check your local Goodwill or Salvation Army
Second hand stores are a goldmine of Halloween costumes. You can sometimes find brand new costumes for a few bucks.
Hunt local yard/garage sales
Garage sales are another underrated and hugely overlooked places to find really cheap and sometimes truly unique costumes. Most people use their costumes once or twice, so at some point they’ll have to get rid of it. And this usually happens in October. So keep an eye out for garage sales near you.
Here’s a pro tip, check out your local Facebook groups for Halloween related garage sales near you.
Look to the future
This won’t help you for this year, but for the next year, it definitely will. Stop by your local Spirit Halloween (or any other Halloween themed) store on November 1st and ask if they have any sales.
The morning after October 31st, these stores are out of business until the next season.
And since usually each year they feature new costumes, they try to get rid of their old ones. It’s usually done through wholesale or by other means. But it won’t hurt to ask. It’ll just take a few minutes of your time to stop by and ask. You never know. It’s not unheard of to get costumes for up to 8090% off. You may even get lucky and get some for free.
You can also ask the people in charge of your local hunted houses.
DIY Halloween Costumes
Making your own costumes can save you a ton of money. The best part is that you can make unique costumes that no one else has.
Don’t know where to start?
Checkout our handy list of awesome cheap DIY Halloween costumes.
