What’s the Catch with Wikibuy?
There is no catch really!
It’s a free browser extension that’s available for:
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Microsoft Edge
- Safari
The add-on will search for lower prices on products while you shop on Amazon, and also gives you coupon codes at the checkout.
Get the browser extension here.
Wikibuy does offer an app as well:
However, it doesn’t work in the same way as the browser extension.
With this money saving mobile app, you can search for products and view their latest prices at a variety of retailers that have partnered with Wikibuy.
Also, using the “Local” tab, you can find savings on the go. Just link your credit card and shop at any of these locally-featured stores, and you can earn Wikibuy Credits for offline purchases.
While this post is focused on the browser extension, we’ll still cover the apps below.

Now that you know what it is, let’s take a closer look at how it works.
How it Works
The main feature of Wikibuy is its browser extension.
So, we’re going to discuss that in a little more depth.
Firstly, you install the browser extension. We linked to this above, but in case you missed it, you can get it here.
Once it’s installed, you can start taking advantage of all the features that it has to offer.
Here’s what features are on offer:
1. Finds the best prices automatically on Amazon
If you’re like most people, you probably shop on Amazon a lot, and that really is where Wikibuy shines as it can save you money on Amazon.
Once installed, when you’re shopping on Amazon, it will automatically search thousands of merchants, like Walmart, Target, and eBay to see if you’re getting the best deal.
This means that you can see if the item you’re planning to buy on Amazon is available cheaper elsewhere.
This is such a useful feature.
Also, once one person finds a better price, the other 3 million+ Wikibuyers who have the browser extension installed, will know about the deal, automatically.
While you browse Amazon products or search directly on WB, it will find you better offers from other sellers. If the product you’re shopping for has selectable options, like color or size, then the tool will start working once you’ve picked your options.
It the product doesn’t have any selectable options, then it will start working immediately, and if there are savings, WB will display the lowest priced match within 10 to 15 seconds.
You can even review your savings. Just click the WB prompt and it will display a summary of the matching products, including:
- Pricing history
- Return policy
- Delivery estimate
- Related product deals from other WB users
- Reviews and rankings from Amazon and Google, as well as YouTube videos
This is really handy when you are shopping.
2. Automatically get coupon codes
The extension will also apply coupon codes at the checkout at thousands of retailers.
The coupon codes are updated in real-time, based on which codes save other users the most money.
This means that you actually get working coupon codes, which is great.
When you shop with a participating retailer, you’ll get a notification from the browser extension wherever a coupon code field is present. This could be on the cart page or the checkout page.
When you get this notification, click the green button that says, “try codes.”
Wikibuy will then find coupons for you.
It should take just a few moments for all coupons to be tested, depending on how many codes WB finds.
When all codes have been tested, WB will automatically apply the best coupon code out all of them and displays the total amount of savings.
3. Earn credit for your purchases
When you make purchases on sites like Walmart and eBay, you’ll earn credits with a click. You can use your WB credit to buy gift cards, which is another great feature of the browser extension.
You can get credits when you shop at partnered online stores, by clicking the “ok” button in the top right of your browser window when you are prompted through your extension
That’s basically how the browser extension works.
It’s pretty simple!
How the Wikibuy Mobile App Works
As we mentioned above, the browser extension, so the desktop version, and the Android and iOS app, so the mobile version, work quite differently.
We’re going to give you a brief overview of what their great shopping app has to offer.
We gave you those download links above. You can also visit this page and enter your phone number and WB will send you a one-time SMS to download the app.
Here’s what features the app has to offer:
- Search for products and see their latest prices at a variety of partnered retailers. You can compare prices on millions of products.
- You can get notified automatically when the prices drop on the items you view.
- Search for coupons and offers.
- Earn credit on purchases at more than 10,000 stores and restaurants. And, you can earn those credits in-store and online.

Currently, it can only find savings for those in the United States. It does say though that “expanding savings to foreign customers will be a future priority.”

Is Wikibuy Legit?
Yes, it is a legit company owned by Capital One which is a well-known company.
Plus, it’s been featured by plenty of major news outlets, like:
- Forbes
- Fortune
- USA Today
- ABC News
- New York Magazine
That’s not all though, the customer reviews of the company on Trustpilot are just as good.
On Trustpilot, the company is rated “Excellent” with 4.5 stars out of five stars.
96% of the ratings on there are “Excellent,” so WB is definitely a well-reviewed app.
Here’s what customers on Trustpilot have to say about WB:
- “Great app! Almost always save some money.”
- “Just saved $45 bucks ordering Party Invitations! I love this! Thanks!”
- “Wikibuy does all the work. Code applied at checkout! Saved $20.00! Awesome.”
- “Just saved $8.50 thanks”
- “Love it. Always finds me a coupon.”
What about the app?
While WB is well-reviewed on Truspilot, the mobile app doesn’t have as good reviews on the Google Play Store or the App Store.
On Google Play, it has just 2.5 stars.
Most reviewers when talking about the mobile app say that it doesn’t show them the best deal, and they end up finding a better price outside of WB for the product they want to purchase.
This is just one of the reviews that stated this issue:
- “My credit card company suggested it, there were plenty of good reviews, so I tried it. Looked for a quadcopter that costs an average of $189. Wikibuy’s suggested purchase was $304+$5 shipping. Same site has the exact same product@$189. I can neither trust, nor suggest Wikibuy. One good thing: it was easy to uninstall.”
Really if the app is supposed to give you good prices, and it doesn’t then it’s not giving you the service that it should.
On the App Store, WB had similarly poor reviews, with a rating of just 2.6 out of 5 stars.
So, the WB browser extension seems great and customers seem to love it. The app however, doesn’t seem liked by users.
Is Wikibuy Worth It?
Let’s take a look at the pros and cons.
Pros
There are plenty of great features on offer:
It helps you to get the best price on the stuff you buy
We all know that we should be doing a price comparison, but, many of us don’t. The main reason why is simply because doing a price comparison is time-consuming. Going to a bunch of different sites takes time, and many of us are busy and want to be able to shop quickly.
Now, the WB extension browses prices automatically when you shop on Amazon, and you can search for the best prices as well.
It really saves you hours of researching prices on different sites.
You can get coupon codes automatically applied
Searching for coupon codes that actually work is also time consuming. The fact that WB searches for working coupons and automatically applies them is a real time and money-saver.
It’s easy to use
The interface is super simple, and it works right alongside your browser. So it really makes saving money so easy.
Cons
There aren’t many cons to the browser extension.
The only one really would be that sometimes there are glitches with price comparison.
While for the most part, it compares prices well, sometimes the extension won’t quite interpret prices properly.
For example, it might not pick up on discounts or sales that are on offer from a website, and refer you to a more expensive option instead.
So, it’s always worth doing a quick bit of research.
Takeaway
Overall, we’d recommend using the Wikibuy browser extension. WB is incredibly well-reviewed on Trustpilot, and it’s a legit company.
Most importantly though, it can save you a lot of money, and with little to no effort on your part!

Is Wikibuy available on AOL? I use AOL as my main browser for online purchases.
Saeed Darabi
Stephen, no, they don’t have an extension for AOL Explorer.
Terri Rumpf
Does it require the use of a Capitol One credit card if you have one?
Saeed Darabi
No, it doesn’t, Terri.
billz iams
CapitolOne is an organization that is NOT likely to miss an opportunity. What do they get out of giving WB away for free?
Saeed Darabi
You are correct Billz. I believe they make their money by getting commission on items you buy.
