In this section, I want to give you a step-by-step guide that covers some really simple tips that you can use to ensure you have maximum success. These are pretty simple but effective.

When you come to sell stuff, make sure that you follow these tips:

Step 1: Freshen up the clothes

My first tip is a simple one, but it’s something that many people simply don’t do. And it’s to freshen up your clothes. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen clothing listed online that looks wrinkled or even stained in some cases.

Those types of listing are the ones that I avoid, and most other buyers will too.

Stained and wrinkled clothing simply does not sell well.

That’s why it’s so important that you take the time to wash or dry clean your items before you list them for sale. And if you are selling shoes, make sure that you polish them and buff away any scuff marks.

You want to sell stuff that’s in the best possible condition.

Step 2: Take some great photos

Again, I’ve put off listings where the photos are dark, or they’re grainy or blurry, so you can’t really see the item clearly. If I’m buying something, I want to be able to see a clear photo of it.

First of all, you’ll want the lighting to be good. Try to take your photos in a place where there’s plenty of natural light.

You can either hang the clothes or do a flat lay of them. Then simply take some photos. Make sure that you take a photo of the front and back of each garment and if there’s any detailing on the items, like a printed pattern or any fancy pockets, take a photograph of that too. You may also want to take photos of any labels on the clothing, especially if they’re for a well-known or popular brand.

Make sure that the photos you get are clear.

When your listing includes clear photos, it’s more likely that people will click on it and potentially buy your item.

Step 3: Be honest about the condition of your clothing

The last thing you want to do when selling online is to be dishonest about the condition of the stuff you sell. If you write a glowing description of an item, and then when the customer gets it, they find that there are tears or marks that weren’t mentioned on the listing, then they aren’t going to be happy. Your listing will be up there with hundreds or even thousands of others. So, you need to make sure that it stands out.

Here are some quick tips for creating a great headline:

• Use searchable words and terms: The headline helps buyers search for what they want. This is why you need to make sure that you use relevant keywords so that your listing will appear to customers who are searching for the item you’re selling.
• Include specifics: A listing that says, “Shoes” is far too generic. “Boy’s Shoes” is better and “Brown Boy’s Shoes” is even better than that. Include things like the brand, size, and color.
• Don’t be too verbose: While you want to include some details in the heading, you don’t want to overstuff it with keywords and descriptions. Concise, yet detailed is what you’re looking for here.
• Include a few of the item’s best features in your headline: Rather than trying to cram too much into your title, you’ll just want to choose some of its best features. For, example, if the item is barely worn, then be sure to mention that. Including the name or the item, the condition of it, and the brand is a good starting point.

Of course, it’s important to remember that your headline needs to be succinct because the details are best saved for the description.

Step 5: Write an awesome description for your listing

Now that you have an awesome headline to go along with your photos, it’s time for you to write the description for your listing.

A great description should give the customer all the details they need to know without being too long or boring.

Here are some tips for writing a great description:

• Start out by explaining what it is you are selling. People are busy, so it’s best to get straight to the point!
• Next, you should say why you’re selling the item. So you could say something like, “Jeans in great condition. Only selling because my son has outgrown them!” That way, people will know you’re selling a quality item!
• Be honest about the condition of the item. Make sure you mention any marks or damage to the clothing in the description.
• Include measurements and/or sizes.

So download a measurement/size chart for the brand, and include it in the photos if you can. Don’t worry if you can’t find a sizing chart as this is just an extra step you can take to improve your listing, but it’s not a requirement for a good listing.

Step 7: Set a price for your items

Okay, now you’ll want to come up with a price for your clothing.

First of all, you want to set a fair price. So you don’t want to shortchange yourself. That being said, you also want to make sure that you set a realistic price for what you’re selling.

A good way to price your items right is simply by looking at what other people are charging for similar items. So, if you’re selling a dress on eBay, for example, do a quick search for similar dresses there to see what other people are selling dresses for.

Secondly, you need to be realistic when pricing your stuff for sale. If the item has a mark on it, for example, you will need to adjust the price accordingly. Think about what you would happily pay for that item.
