1. Check out Prime Reading
If you’re not a Prime member, then you should definitely consider signing up for the service. With Prime, you get access to fast, free shipping on tons of items across Amazon (although you can get free shipping without Prime membership).
And, you don’t need to hit any spending limit to qualify. As long as your order contains Prime Eligible items, your shipping is free, regardless of the order total.
Now, aside from the shipping benefits, Prime also comes with access to Amazon’s streaming service, Prime Video. This includes tons of movies, TV shows and documentaries.
So, what does this have to do with getting free books you ask?
Well, another benefit that comes along with a membership is Prime Reading.
This is a feature of Prime that allows you to read 1000s of books for free.
Next time you’re browsing the Kindle store, click the filter “Prime Reading Eligible” and you’ll see books that are available through the program.
What’s great about Prime Reading is that it includes popular titles and books from well-known authors.
Since I am a Prime member, I have actually gotten to read tons of free books through Prime Reading – saving me hundreds!

Prime Reading is a free feature for Prime members. But, a Prime membership costs $10.99 a month. Read our comprehensive Prime review to learn more about the program and whether it’s worth it for you.
2. Join Kindle Unlimited
If you read several books a month, then you might want to sign up to Kindle Unlimited.
This is another great program from Amazon that gives you free books.
But, unlike Prime Reading, which gives you access to more than a thousand books for free, Kindle Unlimited gives you a library of more than 1 million books you can read for free.
Kindle Unlimited costs $9.99 a month. And you can read books and listen to audiobooks across multiple devices.
So, if you read a lot, then the $9.99 a month might work out cheaper than buying books individually.
3. Use Swagbucks to save on Kindle Books
A great trick to saving some cash on books is to use Swagbucks.
If you haven’t heard of it before, Swagbucks is a rewards website. You sign up, complete super simple tasks, like browsing the internet, playing games, and taking surveys and you’ll earn points, known as Swag Bucks (SB).
You can even earn points for watching TV!
Then, Swagbucks allows you to exchange your SB for gift cards to a variety of places, including, of course, Amazon!
So, you can use your Amazon gift cards to buy books in the Kindle Store. Heck, if you use these Swagbucks hacks, you can even make enough to essentially get a free Kindle device.
Also, PayPal is a payment option.
You can save cash on books, or even get them for free using your gift card or PayPal credit.
You basically get free money to spend!

4. Get Free Books with Amazon First Reads
If you’re wondering how to save money on Kindle books, then you should consider joining Prime.
As we mentioned above, Prime offers so many benefits one of which is Amazon First Reads.
With this feature, which used to be known as Kindle First, you can get early access to new books.
Each month you can choose one Kindle book to read for free, from a selection of titles selected by Amazon’s editors. This is another reason to become a member of Prime.
5. Shop through Rakuten (former eBates) and Save at the Kindle Store
Another great way to hack your way to some Kindle book savings is to use Rakuten.
If you shop online, then you should definitely be using Rakuten!
With Rakuten, you can get up to 40% cash back at more than 2,500 stores!
And, what’s great about Rakuten is that it even has a browser extension available, so that you can enjoy savings, without even having to visit the Rakuten website!
You can use your cash back to buy books, and save yourself a lot of money!
Basically, stores pay Rakuten a commission when its members visit their sites, and then Rakuten shares the commission with you as cashback.
And, just for signing up, Rakuten will give you $10! So, that’s $10 you can save on Kindle books!
Payments are sent via PayPal or check.
6. Get them for Free with Kindle Matchbook
Update: Amazon has ended the Kindle Matchbook program.
If you have a lot of physical books lying around, then you’ll definitely want to check out Kindle Matchbook.
It’s a really interesting feature offered by Amazon that allows you to get digital versions of books you’ve bought at Amazon for a low price.
So, if you have a qualifying book, which is a book that you purchased online, which was sold and fulfilled by Amazon.com, then you can buy the Kindle edition for $2.99 or less.
This means that you can sometimes get a Kindle book for a lower price.
Visit this page, and then click on “Find your Kindle Matchbook Titles.” You’ll need to log in, and then Amazon will scour your purchase history to see if there are any books that you could get a Kindle version of for $2.99 or less.
7. Take Surveys and Save on Books with Life Points
Life Points is a survey website that gives you points when you complete surveys. And, you can then exchange these points for money, and gift cards, e-certificates and vouchers.

You can earn up to $5 a survey.
So, you can use your Amazon gift card or the money you make from the surveys to buy books from the Kindle store.
You’re basically getting free cash to spend! All you need to do is answer a few simple surveys.

This is such a great way to get your hands on new books, without spending money.
Aside from having a Kindle device, you’ll also need to be a member of Prime to get access to the library.
