I don’t watch Cable TV. Instead, I use paid and free live TV streaming apps to watch movies and shows I like. With so many apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, there is really no reason to pay for a traditional cable TV package.
Hulu is one of the most popular options out there.
Hulu has a lot to offer customers with popular shows like This is Us on offer and tons of movies and exclusive content.
Depending on the membership plan you choose (from the basic Hulu to Hulu (No Ads), Hulu + Live TV and Hulu (No Ads) + Live TV), you can also get access to 65 channels like CBS, ESPN, and ABC. It certainly has a lot to offer.
Founded in 2007 and launched publicly in March 2008, Hulu is an incredibly well-established platform.
As of 2021, Hulu has 42.8 million paid subscribers.

Hulu certainly isn’t the only site of its kind. There are plenty of others, like Netflix, which originally started out as a movie rental company, which started streaming content to audiences in 2007. Nowadays though, there are plenty of other streaming services around.
While Hulu is a good platform, you might want to try a different streaming service. Perhaps you’re looking to expand the number of shows and movies you have to watch? Or maybe you’re looking to cut the cord, and want more stuff to watch?
So you want to add another streaming service alongside Hulu.
Or maybe you want to get rid of Hulu altogether and try out another streaming platform.
Whatever the case, there are a ton of streaming services out there nowadays all offering content that audiences can stream whenever they would like.
If you want to try out a different service, then this is the list for you.
Table of Contents
Best Streaming Services Like Hulu
Below, I cover some awesome streaming services where you can watch 1,000s of TV shows, movies, documentaries, and even live TV.
1. Netflix
- Cost: $8.99 to $17.99 a month
- Free trial: No
Netflix is one of the best TV and Movie streaming sites out there. Obviously, it’s one of the most popular and well-known streaming companies, but that’s not the only reason it’s such a good option. Aside from offering great TV shows, movies, and documentaries, Netflix also offers plans at really affordable prices.
You can sign up for a monthly plan that costs $8.99 to $17.99 a month.
For true crime fans, Netflix is an awesome platform because it offers a lot of crime documentaries.
Advertisements
As someone who enjoys thrillers and mystery movies, I think that Netflix offers a great selection of movies in those genres.
I would say that compared to some other streaming services, many of Netflix’s TV shows are aimed at teenagers, like Riverdale, the 100, and Outer Banks. That’s not to say that there’s not great content on there for people of all ages though, with popular shows like Virgin River, The Haunting of Hill House, and Ozark on offer.
2. Peacock
- Cost: Free to $9.99 a month
- Free trial: No
Update: As of November 2023, Peacock TV no longer offers a free tier. But you can get their cheapest plan for only $5.99/mo.
Fans of NBC should check out Peacock. This is a really affordable streaming platform that you can actually watch for free!
The paid plan will only set you back $5.99 a month! Although there are still ways to get Peacock TV for free!
Peacock has thousands of hours of movies and TV shows that you can watch and that’s not all you’ll find on offer from the streaming service. Peacock also offers sports, news, and pop culture.
There are some great shows on there like Yellowstone, Mr. Mercedes, and Superstore. There are also Spanish language shows offered too.
There are ads with the free option, but it’s still pretty good, right?
3. Amazon Prime Video
- Cost: $8.99 to $12.99 a month
- Free trial: 30-day free trial
Amazon Prime Video is definitely an awesome Hulu alternative or another one you might want to add to your roster of streaming services.
The platform has a TON of movies on offer and many great TV shows including shows that are exclusive to the platform, like the Marvelous Miss Maisel.
What I like about Amazon Prime Video over Netflix, is that the platform is less oriented toward younger audiences. I really do think that lately so many Netflix shows have been aimed at kids and teenagers, and while these shows aimed at younger audiences are great, if you’re older, they’re probably not your thing.
That’s why Prime is so good. It has some really great shows for all ages. The movies on there are good too, and it’s not just originals you’ll find with Prime. It actually has a lot of Hollywood movies on there. Since Amazon recently acquired MGM, it’s sure to offer even more well-known movies in the future.
Now, another thing that I feel makes Prime Video one of the best options out there is that it’s so affordable.
You can get Prime Video by itself, which costs $8.99 per month. I would recommend getting the whole Prime membership plan instead because not only do you get access to Prime Video, but you also get 2 million songs you can stream for free with Prime Music, free Kindle books, and, the best part, free, fast delivery on thousands of Prime eligible products with no minimum order.
Prime costs just $12.99 a month, which, when you factor in everything that comes along with your membership plan, makes it one of the best platforms in terms of value for money.
It’s not just the low costs that make Amazon Prime one of the best either. The platform also has the most generous free trial period of all of the companies on our list.
You can try out Prime for 30 days!
4. Plex
- Cost: Free
Okay, so perhaps you want a Hulu alternative because you want something cheaper? Well, what’s cheaper than free?
Plex is a totally free streaming service!
Yes, you can stream tons of content for free. This is so great because it can save you a lot of money each month.
I know with all of the streaming services out there, it can seem like if we use a few different ones, it adds up to quite a lot of money that has to be paid out each month, right?
That’s why if you would like to try out a new service, but don’t want another streaming service to pay for, Plex can be such a good choice.
With it, you can stream more than 20,000 on-demand movies and TV shows from well known companies like MGM, Warner Brothers, and Lionsgate.
That’s not all either. You can watch live TV with Plex! And there are more than 80 channels available.
Overall, it’s a really great platform for anyone who’s looking to watch movies and TV shows for free.
5. (HBO) Max
- Cost: From $9.99 a month
- Free trial: No
HBO has some really awesome shows like the Sopranos. So if you’re looking for some high quality TV shows and movies, then you should give HBO Max a try.
You’ll find a ton of well-known shows on there, like Friends and True Detective.
It’s also a good platform for fans of Hollywood and blockbuster movies.
Now, HBO Max has a couple of membership options. There’s a plan for just $9.99 a month, but you do get ads. Or you can upgrade to the ad-free version for $16.99 a month.
Although there is no HBO Max free trial any more, you can watch some TV shows for free. There’s a section on the site for free episodes, which you can check out here. No subscription is required to watch these episodes.
6. Paramount Plus
- Cost: From $5.99 a month
- Free trial: 1 week
Paramount Plus is another streaming service like Hulu where you can watch a ton of channels, like Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and BET.
The company also allows you to watch on up to three devices. Plus, you can stream commercial free, except for on live TV, and on a few shows. The platform also gives you the option to download shows and movies that you can watch offline.
Paramount Plus is also pretty good for sports fans.
Paramount Plus used to be known as CBS All Access, so you get all the content you used to get with that platform, which includes college football.
It’s definitely one of the most affordable options on the list with plans starting at just $5.99 a month.
7. Crackle
- Cost: Free
Love to watch movies? Then why not give Crackle a try. It’s a streaming service that’s owned by Sony. The thing that makes it so great is that it is free!
Yes, it’s another free streaming app. For anyone who’s on a budget, it’s one to consider. The company offers free Hollywood movies from a variety of genres like comedy, horror, and action.
There are ads on the site because it’s free. That’s not a huge deal though considering all of the free content that you get from the platform.
If you set up a free account on the site, you can see fewer ads and you can pick up where you left off on whatever device you want.
8. Sling TV
- Cost: $35 a month
- Free trial: 3-day free trial
Okay, next on the list we have Sling TV. Streaming services like Hulu are great because we can watch tons of movies and TV shows on demand. Another reason for using streaming services is that they can be a good alternative to cable since many of them offer live TV.
That’s definitely the case for Sling TV. The streaming service offers live sports, and 37 channels, like ESPN and CNN, making it a good option for anyone who’s looking to replace their cable.
You can also stream more than 80,000 shows and movies on demand.
Sling TV is on the more expensive side compared to the previous platforms, but since it does provide a good alternative to cable TV, it’s still a really affordable option for anyone looking to cut the cord.
There’s a 3-day free trial available, which is awesome. Now, the platform also gives you 50 hours of free DVR storage. And, you can upgrade to 200 hours of DVR storage for just $5 a month. So, again, Sling TV really does have a lot of features that make it one of the best services out here.
9. Philo
- Cost: $20 a month
- Free trial: 7-day free trial
Philo is a pretty good site like Hulu, which you can use to watch lots of movies and TV shows from different genres. There’s something for everyone on Philo, with more than 60+ channels, like The Food Network, BET, and TLC, available on the platform.
It’s not too expensive either, setting you back $20 a month. There’s a pretty good free trial period available too which allows you to try out the service for a week for free. Another feature that makes Philo an awesome option is the unlimited DVR the platform provides.
Overall, this is a good option like Hulu.
10. FuboTV
- Cost: $64 a month
- Free trial: 7-day free trial
Another one to try out is FuboTV. Now, this is one of the more expensive options on the list costing $64 a month. However, it does offer a lot of features that make it not just a good alternative to Hulu, but also a great alternative for those who are looking to cut the cord and still want to be able to enjoy many of the features, like live TV, that are offered by a traditional cable subscription.
The company is ideal for people who are looking to watch sports. You can get plenty of other channels on there too, like AMC, ABC, and Starz.
It also allows you to watch live and on-demand content. Plus, you can get 30 hours of cloud DVR space.
11. AT&T TV
- Cost: From $69.99 a month
- Free trial: No
There are so many streaming services out there nowadays, right? Well, AT&T is in on the game with an impressive host of features. With AT&T TV, you can watch live tv and stream content on demand.
That’s why it’s such a good option because it does have offer live TV which is something that some people miss on platforms like Netflix, which are more focused on streaming content.
With AT&T TV, you can watch more than 65 channels, like ESPN, TNT, HGTV, and Nickelodeon.
There are a few different membership plans available with the cheapest one starting at $69.99 a month, and the most expensive plan costing $94.99 a month.
With the cheapest plan, you can stream more than 40,000 titles on demand. With the most expensive plan, you can stream more than 55,000 titles on demand.
It’s a great option because it offers that mix of live TV, and on-demand content that you can stream whenever you want to.
All membership plans come with 20 hours of cloud DVR storage too, which is great.
12. ESPN+
- Cost: $5.99 a month
- Free trial: No
ESPN+ is one of the best streaming platforms out there for sports fans.
The platform gives you access to tons of live events from MLB, NHL, MLS, Serie A, FA Cup, Top Rank Boxing, and more. That’s not all either. You can also get access to UFC Fight Nights and PPV events, and Grand Slam tennis.
With ESPN+, you can also get access to ESPN+ Originals from some of sports most well-known names, like Peyton’s Places with Peyton Manning, Stephen A’s World with Stephen A. Smith, Detail with Vince Carter, and Ariel & The Bad Guy with Ariel Helwani.
And, you can get access to the Full 30 for 30 Library, which is a series of sports documentaries.
It’s pretty cheap too, costing just $5.99 a month. You won’t find movies and shows here like you would on Hulu or Netflix, but you will find a ton of sports. So if you’re looking for a streaming service like Hulu because you want to watch more live sports, and sports content, then ESPN+ could definitely be the platform for you.

YouTube doesn’t just offer free videos though. It actually has its own streaming service called YouTube TV.
It offers a lot of great features that make it a good Hulu alternative. It features more than 85 channels, like NBC, AMC, CBS, and CNN.
You can watch and DVR live sports, shows, and news with YouTube TV, which is awesome, and you can record without DVR storage space limits.
Now, I do think that it’s not one of the most affordable options out there, costing you $64.99 a month.
There is a free trial available though. So you can try out YouTube TV free for 30 days.
