Here's how you can make money as a dog food tester...Looking for things to do to earn some extra money?

How about getting paid to eat dog food?

If the thought of eating your furry friend’s food repulses you, this job might not be for you.

But if you think you can handle it, you will be joining the ranks of other humans who earn extra money by eating dog chow as Pet Food Tasters.

What is a Pet Food Taster?

I am sure you’ve heard of taste testing jobs where you get paid to taste different foods.

Companies hire these people to get feedback from them before mass producing the food and sending them out to the market. It helps them save a lot of money by getting valuable feedback that will help them improve the product.

Much like the human food taste testers, a pet food taste tester gives feedback on the food and how it tastes. You may be happy to know that you don’t actually eat the food.

Just like with human food taste testers, pet food tasters don’t actually swallow the food, instead, they spit it out.

Besides the taste, pet food testers also give feedback on the nutritional content of the food, texture, etc.

How Much Money Can You Make?

I am not a pet food taster myself, but from the research that I have done and the reports I have read, it seems like the average salary of pet food tester is around $45K, which is much better than many other jobs out there.

That said, if you want to make even more money with this profession, you could build your own business/brand, offering pet food testing to companies.

Don’t think it’s doable?

Consider Simon Allison, who is a world renown pet food tester and an expert. He makes his living by basically eating pet food.

Requirements

There isn’t really any special skill required, but certain qualities will help you land a job faster and easier.

Those qualities include being able to pay attention to details, giving honest feedback, etc.

Of course, the most important qualification factor is that you should be able to put cat or dog food in your mouth and chew it for a certain amount of time without any problem.

Again, you don’t have to actually swallow the food, but you do have to chew it carefully and consistently in order to be able to figure out the various ingredients used in making the food, and give suggestions on how to possibly improve the product.

How Do You Become a Pet Food Taster?

The best way to find pet food testing jobs is through companies that make pet foods.

Keep in mind that most companies do not publicly advertise this job, but if you contact them and express interest, they may hire you.

Of course, you can always keep an eye on newspaper ads, as well as Craigslist and other job sites for such opportunities.

Takeaway

So, the next time you are faced with the question of “what can I do to make extra money,” remember that you can get paid to eat dog food.

The best way to get one of these gigs is to contact pet food companies to see if they have any availability. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to keep an eye on Craigslist and other classified sites for ads.
