40 Jobs Where You Work Alone: Earn up to $193/hr!

If you are anything like me and prefer the solace that only pure solitude can offer, I would highly recommend one of the jobs on our list below.

All of them allow you to work alone. Yes, perhaps you have to talk to an actual human being occasionally, but for 99% of your job, you work alone.

I have included lots of work from home jobs here, but you’ll find a few gigs that’ll get you out of the house if that’s what you’re after.

Top Jobs Where You Work Alone

Here are the best jobs for introverts how like to work by themselves and without much human interaction.

1. Freelance writing

As a freelance writer, you can work alone right from the comfort of your own home. Freelancers can earn anywhere from $12 to $58 an hour with the average income being $23 an hour.

Many freelancers get paid per word though, rather than hourly. Pay per word can range from as little as $0.01 per word to as much as $0.10 per word or even more than that.

Some places may pay per article, like Verblio, where pay starts at $10.50 for a 300 to 400 word post.

Freelancers write content like blog posts, books, and articles for clients.

It’s one of those jobs that pays well without a degree, which is awesome.

2. Proofreading and editing

If you have a knack for spotting typos and grammatical errors, then working as a proofreader or editor could be the job for you.

Proofreaders and editors check work like novels, articles, and blog posts, to see if there are any grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, or typos. Editors may also check content for structural elements.

Pay for proofreading varies from $12 to $30 an hour with the average pay being $18 an hour.

Transcriptionists listen to audio and then type or “transcribe” what they hear. Then, they deliver the transcript to the client. This is a job where you can work alone and from home.

Transcriptionists earn anywhere from $10 to $28 an hour with the average income being $15 an hour.

Data entry work is easy to get into because you don’t really need any qualifications or experience to get started, and you can do this job alone and from home!

5. Start a blog

Okay, so if you are looking for something a little different than your regular job or freelance gig, then you may want to consider starting a blog.

You won’t earn money from your blog at first. You will need to build up traffic, but once you start getting traffic to it, you can monetize your blog in a number of ways, such as:

Choose a topic you’re interested in, and then start a blog on it.

You can publish your blog posts with WordPress.org and get a domain name and hosting from sites like Bluehost, HostGator, and GoDaddy.

The amount of money you earn will depend on the number of visitors your blog gets, and how you monetize it. But, there are many people earning $1,000s from their blog each month. You just need to post consistently and build up traffic to your blog to start earning.

6. Self-publish books with Kindle Direct Publishing

I think that next to freelance writing, being an author has to be the ultimate job for introverts.

You get to work when you want, and alone. It’s your job to write books and then sell them.

The best part is that you don’t even need a traditional publisher now to get your book out there. Now, anyone can publish a book with Amazon KDP and make money from it. You can choose to write fiction books, like a mystery novel, for example, or you could go the non-fiction route and write a how-to-style book.

All you have to do is upload your book, market it, and then wait for it to sell. When your book sells, Amazon gives you anywhere from 35% to 70% in royalties. Those royalty rates are far higher than those offered by traditional publishing houses.

The good thing about KDP is that once your book is uploaded, you will continue making money from it each time you make a sale. This makes it a good residual income stream.

The amount of money you make depends on the number of sales you make and the commission rate you get. You could make $100s or even $1,000s a month though as an author with KDP.

Okay, so while not a job per se, doing tasks on reward sites is still a good way for introverts to make money.

Reward websites, which are also known as “get paid to” websites, will pay you for doing simple tasks, such as:

One place where you can get pet-sitting jobs is on Rover. The website claims that its pet sitters can earn up to $1,000 a month. The website pays fast too, as payments for bookings are available for withdrawal two days after you complete a service.

PayPal and check are available as payment options, and if you choose to get paid by PayPal, then the payment is released in just 1 to 4 days. Checks, on the other hand, take 5 days to process and up to 20 days to arrive, so if you want to get paid fast, then opt for PayPal.

10. Sell courses online

If you are looking for an alternative to your traditional 9 to 5 or freelance gig, then consider selling courses online.

Create a course on a topic you’re knowledgeable about and then sell it online.

13. Closed Captioning

19. Dog walker

If you’re a dog person, then why not try working as a dog walker? Some people need to hire someone to walk their dog for them while they are at work. You could advertise your services to people in your neighborhood or online.

20. Book reviewer

25. Amazon Flex Driver

Why not try delivering packages for Amazon? As an Amazon Flex Driver, you’ll earn money delivering packages for Amazon, and you can even search for available delivery blocks near you and choose the deliveries you want to make.

Amazon Flex drivers earn anywhere from $18 to $25 an hour. And, it’s a great way to make money fast because payment is sent twice per week by direct deposit.

While cleaning does involve you going out to people’s homes, and, well, cleaning, most people tend to be out of the house when the cleaning is done. So, this is a good way to make some money while working on your own.

You can advertise services locally on places like Facebook or in the local paper, or just offer services to friends or family, and then get business by word of mouth.

One of the easiest ways to get work as a cleaner though is to search for jobs online. You can try out all of the usual job search sites like Indeed and SimplyHired. One site that’s particularly good for cleaning jobs is Housekeeper.com.

Cleaners earn $12 an hour on average. Pay, however, can be anywhere from $9 to $20 an hour.

27. Mystery shopper

Another option is to try working as a mystery shopper.

Mystery shoppers visit stores, restaurants, movie theaters, and other businesses and provide feedback on their experience. They provide feedback on things like how well the business’s staff treated them, and how clean the place was.

36. Refurbish and sell used electronics

Another option you can try if you are looking for a gig where you can work alone is refurbishing and selling used electronics.

Many people get rid of their faulty devices, like laptops, cameras, and smartphones, without actually looking into the cause of these faults.

This means that if you have the skills to fix electronics, you could earn money refurbishing and reselling used electronics.

Now, the amount of money you earn depends on the number of electronics you sell, how much you sell each item for, and how much profit you make on each sale. If you can get a lot of sales, then this could be a profitable venture for you.

37. Try affiliate marketing

Another way to make money where you can work alone, and you don’t actually need to talk to anyone is with affiliate marketing.

With this career, you join an affiliate marketing program and get affiliate links for products. There are affiliate products in pretty much every category you could think of from tech to cosmetics.

You post your affiliate links online in places like:

When a customer clicks on one of your affiliate links, they’re taken to the product page as they normally would be, and when they make a purchase, you get a commission on the sale.

Let’s say that you have an affiliate link for a laptop that costs $750. You get 10% in affiliate commission, which means that, from the sale, you earn $75.

To get these affiliate links, you’ll need to join an affiliate program.

There are lots of affiliate marketing programs out there, such as:

Now, with affiliate marketing, you need to get sales in order to make money, which means that you need to get traffic to your links so that people can actually see them and click on them.

This is one of those money-making ventures that require a lot of effort upfront before it becomes profitable. If you can drive traffic though, and make sales, this can earn you a decent income.

Affiliate marketers can earn anywhere from $11,000 to $401,500 a year.

Affiliate marketers earn $74 an hour on average, with pay ranging from $5 to $193 an hour.

Just make sure you drive traffic to your links because without anyone clicking on your links, you’re not going to make any sales, which means no commission. If you can get people to follow your links and make a purchase though, then this could be a great income stream for you.

38. Sell on Etsy

Why not sell stuff on Etsy? You can sell crafts, clothing, furniture, vintage pieces, handmade items and more on the platform. To get started, you just need some great products and then set up your Etsy store.

Things like the number of products you sell and how much each piece sells for will determine your income.

Etsy does charge you $0.20 to list an item for sale, and if it sells, you have to pay a 5% transaction fee and 3% plus $0.25 payment processing fee.

This isn’t a job per se, but still, it’s a great way to earn some extra money. Rent out your car with Turo. It’s free to list a vehicle on there, and you can get paid when someone rents your car.
