If you are one of the many American families who, amid the pandemic, are more reliant than ever on government food assistance programs such as EBT, and would prefer to shop online safely without exposing yourself to additional risks by going to grocery stores near you, you may be wondering about grocery stores that accept EBT online.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) assists low-income individuals and families with the cost of groceries, including food and drink items.
Millions of Americans receive SNAP benefits, which are issued through an EBT card. And that’s on top of using local food pantries and charities.
Previously, you could only use your food stamps to pay for purchases in-store. This meant that if you wanted to buy any of your groceries online, you didn’t have the option to use your EBT card to do so. Thankfully, that’s not the case anymore.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) now has a pilot program, called the SNAP Online Purchasing Pilot, that allows SNAP recipients to use their EBT card to purchase groceries online from participating retailers in select states.
This has opened up so many more options for people on SNAP benefits. Sometimes, you just can’t get to the store, and you want to shop online instead.

So, where exactly can you shop for groceries online using food stamps?
Well, that’s what today’s post is all about. Below, I’ll cover grocery stores that accept EBT online, and what you can purchase using your food stamps.
Table of Contents
What is an EBT card?
An Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card is a debit card that’s used in all 50 states the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Guam to deliver SNAP benefits. The card has been the sole method for delivering SNAP benefits in all states since June 2004.
You can use your EBT card like a regular debit card to make purchases. But, unlike a regular debit card, EBT cards can only be used to purchase SNAP-eligible items at authorized retailers.
This means that there are certain items that you won’t be able to purchase using your food stamps, and retailers that don’t accept EBT as a form of payment. Also, many grocery stores did not accept food stamps as a payment option for online orders. Now though, you do have the option to purchase groceries online using your food stamps.

The SNAP Online Purchasing Pilot is a program run by the USDA that allows customers with a valid EBT card to use their SNAP funds to purchase online from participating retailers.
