Car Delivery Job Requirements
Okay, so how exactly do you become a car delivery driver?
Well, to begin with, it’s important to understand that every job has its own qualifications and requirements.
For the most part though, most companies tend to require their drivers to have the following:
- A valid driver’s license.
- A clean driving record.
- Be older than 23 years old (some places require drivers to be 30 years old though!)
- Not be older than 75 years old – some places set the age cap at 70 years old.
Aside from that, you will also need to be good at sticking to schedules, and have a love of driving and traveling because, well, that’s what this job entails! You may have to drive the car across the state or across the country.
Now, as I said above, each company will have its own requirements, so do check out the requirements for the specific company that you plan to apply to work with.
How Much Do You Get Paid to Deliver Cars?
Now for that all important question, how much does delivering cars pay?
Well, it depends on factors like:
- The company you work with.
- How many hours you work.
- The distance you travel.
A self-employed car delivery driver can expect to earn about $300 to $400 per vehicle delivered. Deliver multiple vehicles, and you could make $1,000s from this!
Let’s say that you deliver 2 cars per week, and get $400 per delivery, working 50 weeks a year you could make $40,000 annually. Deliver 3 vehicles per week, and you could earn $60,000 a year!
Companies that Pay You to Deliver Cars
Now that you know what the requirements are for this job and how much money you could earn, it’s time to list places where you can actually find driveaway jobs.

Below, I’ve listed the top companies that have vehicle relocation drivers wanted “signs”.
1. Auto Driveaway
Okay, so one of the most popular driveaway companies is Auto Driveaway. This is one of the largest professional vehicle relocation companies in the country. With Auto Driveaway you can drive a wide range of vehicle types, and according to the company, you can “explore unique destinations.”
To work with the company, you will need to be between 23 and 75 years old, have a valid driver’s license in the state in which you reside, have had your license for more than 1 year, and have a clean driving record.
Auto Driveaway hires 3 types of drivers – you can learn more and apply on the website linked in the section heading above.
2. Driveaway USA
Driveaway USA hires independent contractors to deliver cars. So, working with the company is a great way to get paid to deliver cars. You can work parttime or fulltime, which is awesome. There’s no forced dispatch.
Instead, the company offers open dispatch which gives you the freedom to choose your destination. And, there’s no freight to load or unload. There are also bonus programs on offer too! You can apply online or speak with a recruiter. Visit the website linked in the section heading above to learn more.
3. Toronto Drive Away
Toronto Drive Away is a Canada-based company that provides driveway services in North America and Canada. Now, at the time of writing, driver applications have been temporarily suspended.
I have included the company on the list anyway because it’s only temporarily suspended meaning that when you come to read the article, applications may have opened back up again. It’s worth checking on the site linked above!
4. Rental car companies
Okay, so next on the list, I have a tip for finding lots of driveway jobs and that is to check with rental delivery companies. Some rental delivery companies may require fulltime or parttime driveaway services. So, this can be a good way to find work.
Rental companies need drivers to move cars from place to place, like, for example, delivering its vehicles back to the car rental place after a one-way rental.
Or some companies will need a driver to transport vehicles to and from a repair shop if that vehicle needs work.
Contact rental companies to see if they have any openings. A good tip is to open up Google and then search for the term “car rental companies near me.” This will give you lots of results for rental companies in your area, as well as contact details for each one.
5. Local car dealerships
Another place where you can find work is at local car dealerships. Sometimes, a car dealership will need someone to transport a car from other dealerships.
Have a quick search on Google for local car dealerships and get in touch to see if they need any driveaway services. Local car dealerships are a good place to start. Just open up Google, and enter the phrase, “car dealership near me,” and you should get plenty of results.
6. Online car dealerships
It’s not just brick and mortar dealerships where you can find work. Online car dealerships also offer work.
On these sites, customers can purchase a new or used vehicle online and have it delivered to their homes. These companies need drivers, like you, to deliver these vehicles.
Here are some companies where you can find work:
7. Local driveaway companies
Another place to find vehicle transport jobs is local driveaway companies. You may have some companies near you that are looking to hire people to deliver cars.
Using Google is the easiest way to find these companies.
Open up the search engine and then type in “driveaway companies near me,” or “driveway companies [name of state, town, city, or zip code].”
Then, hit search and you should get plenty of results.
You can get in touch with these companies and ask if they have any openings for delivery drivers.
8. Job websites
Lots of companies post jobs for car delivery drivers on online employment sites, including:
So, it’s worth having a check on there to see if you find any jobs that interest you.
9. Roadie
Next on the list we have Roadie. Now, Roadie differs from the other ones on the list in that it’s not a driveaway company or place like a rental company or dealership where cars need to be moved from point A to point B. Instead, it offers a plethora of ways to earn money from driving.
It does, of course, offer some car delivery jobs.
But that’s not all.
Here are some jobs you can find through Roadie:
- Delivering cars.
- Delivering packages.
- Delivering lost luggage from the airport to the owner’s house.
- Picking up and delivering groceries.
This means that you generally need your own car when delivering with Roadie although for car delivery gigs, you won’t.
With Roadie, you can earn cash on trips that you are already taking whether that’s driving across town or across the country. You can find local and long-haul gigs. The average pay is $15 per trip for local gigs. But for long haul trips, you can earn up to $650.
You can get weekly direct deposits or cash out instantly.
The good thing about Roadie is that you only need to be 18 years old to become a driver.

15. Rent out your car with Turo
Finally, I have a tip that doesn’t involve you driving, but it still enables you to make money with your car. The tip is to rent out your vehicle. When you are not using your car, you can still make money from it. Just list it for rent on Turo.
It’s free to list your vehicle on Turo and it doesn’t charge any sign-up or monthly fees either. You get to customize when your vehicle is available and set your own ground rules. Once the rental trip is over, you get paid in just three days after each trip via direct deposit.
