Are you a JCPenney shopper?
Are you saving as much as possible when you shop at JCPenney?
JCP is a store that stocks just about everything you need at affordable prices, but for those of us who want to get the most for our money, a few hacks, tips and tricks can supercharge those savings.
So, before you set out on your next shopping trip, arm yourself with the knowledge you need to shop like a pro.

1. Visit the Website for Coupons and Coupon Codes
Coupon codes aren’t just for shopping online.
JCPenney usually has a great range of coupons available on its website.
Be sure to read the page carefully.
- Some codes are only for online shopping
- Some are for use together with your JCPenney Store credit card
- Some don’t rely on coupon codes but will require a barcode.
Each deal comes with its own set of terms and conditions such as how many discounts are allowed per customer, so take a closer look at the deal before you head out to claim it.
2. Check Out the Clearance Deals
All the big stores do it. They buy in a certain amount of stock, and as the line comes to an end, they slash the prices to bargain basement level.
It’s easy to miss a clearance item in-store and knowing what you’re looking for will save you from browsing through things you don’t need and might grab on an impulse.
Once again, the JCPenney website (or its app) will keep you informed as to the clearance sale bargains you shouldn’t miss. Of course, there’s a chance they’ll be sold out before you arrive, so have a plan B in mind, just in case.
Alternatively, shop online to have access to all stock no matter whether it’s available at your nearest branch or not.
Some clearance deals are only available online, so you’ll have a wider range to choose from.
3. Sign up for Text or Email Alerts and Get the App
Getting extra text and email alerts can be annoying, but if they save you a few dollars, even once in a while, they have to be worth receiving.
The great thing about this option is being the first to know.
That means a better chance of getting limited and clearance offers before the rest of the world wakes up to them.
Signing up is easy: you’ll find a signup form on just about every page of the JCPenney website. Currently, there’s a reward just for providing your email address, and there’s another coupon if you sign up for text alerts. If only everyone paid us for providing that info!
Here’s a clever hack..
If you’re planning on a big spend, as one does when there’s a new house to outfit, or you’re revamping your kitchen, sign up for both email and text alerts.
The discount coupon for each currently stands at 25% so you’ll get two 25% off coupons to use.
Getting the app might not qualify you for extra discounts (during certain promotions in the past, it has done so), but it will help you to store prices if you’re shopping around for the best price.
It’s also a handy place to save all your coupons so that you don’t have a last-minute scramble for them when you reach the checkout.
4. Get Your In-Store Credit Card
There’s just one snag with any store card; if you use it to buy on credit, you need to remember there’s a high APR.
If you’re good at managing your finances, though, and will generally zero your card with payments soon after purchase, there are great savings in store.
Those opening a new store account automatically qualify for discounts but do note that there are exclusions.
For example, apparel discounts are currently offered, but certain brands don’t qualify for the reduced price.
There are other advantages too. You’ll get more reward points at JC Penney when using the store’s card than you’ll get for a regular card, and certain special offers and discounts are only available to cardholders.
Finally, certain days are designated for earning more rewards points on purchases. Time your shopping right, and you’ll get more $10 rewards coupons to spend later.
5. Stack Promo & Rewards Codes and Check out Price Matching
“Stacking” means getting more than one discount on a purchase.
There are limits to what JCPenney will allow, but it will accept one promo code and one free shipping code for each purchase.
Rewards codes from using your JCPenney card are automatically assigned in $10 blocks that remain valid indefinitely as long as you use your card once a year.
- Stack up to ten rewards codes
- Add a promo or coupon code
- Throw in a shipping discount
That’s going to add up to a substantial price reduction.
Unfortunately, you can’t exceed the purchase price and get paid to shop.
Once again, there are a few exclusions, so do your homework before you make your shopping plans.
JCPenney takes price matching a step further than just matching lower prices you found elsewhere.
They slash another 5% off the deal, and the offer is valid for up to 14 days after the purchase date.
Admittedly, this one is for avid price-watchers only, and it seems unlikely there’ll be a lot of price matches to claim on, but it’s worth remembering, especially if you’ve just made a big purchase.
However, “major appliances” get the match only and not the extra 5% discount.
6. Create a Gift Registry
About to get married?
A JCPenney gift registry ensures you’ll get the things you need instead of getting “I don’t know what to get them” gifts that will probably end up in storage forever.
As a bonus, you get ten% off any items your friends and relatives didn’t buy for you.
The offer lasts for six months, so there’s plenty of time to prepare for a spending spree.
7. Cultivate Your Friendships with JCP Employees
While we’re not suggesting that you keep a friend ONLY because they’re a JCP employee, you may be willing to tolerate a few extra foibles for the sake of her employee discount.
It’s a bit sneaky, but all’s fair in love and shopping!
The bottom line
Even though most items at JCP are normally on sale, there are ways to save even more money.
Be sure to take advantage of these awesome JCPenney money saving tips next time you shop at JCPenney – online or in the store.
