Payments are weekly, which is awesome.

Tutors are paid a set hourly rate. Your hourly rate will depend on the subjects you teach. There are also incentives available for high-quality tutoring.
Tutor.com doesn’t list its hourly rate. It says that more information about its pay structure will be provided after you have successfully completed the initial application and subject exam phase of the process.
However, I did find some concrete numbers on Glassdoor.
On there, pay for tutors at Tutor.com is listed as $12 an hour.
TutaPoint.com doesn’t really give many details about the jobs that it offers. It does have a short page though on its site about becoming a tutor.
It says that you can provide live, internet-based, one-on-one tutoring services for all grade levels. When you’re one of the site’s tutors, students can request instant homework help or schedule a tutoring session at a minimum of 60 minutes a session or up to two hours.
You work with students via a web camera in its virtual online platform. TutaPoint.com works with:
- Certified teachers
- Retired teachers
- Teaching assistants,
- Professors at colleges and universities
- And “others who meet our high standards.”
Like I said above, there aren’t many details on the site, regarding things like tutor requirements or pay.
The site says it works with tutors all over the United States, meaning gigs likely aren’t available to people outside of the U.S.
You can find part-time work as an online tutor with Smarthinking.
You can teach in more than 150 subject areas.
It’s looking for:
- Graduate students
To teach with Smarthinking, you must have one of the following:
- A master’s
- Or other advanced certification.
Also, you’ll need to have several years of teaching/tutoring experience.
Pay is not stated on the site.
Manhattan Prep is a great place to tutor because its pay rate is so high.
You earn $106 to $116 an hour, and you get end of year bonuses.
The hours are also super flexible. You can set your own schedule and teach as few as three hours per week.
You can also use and modify the site’s curriculum as you see fit, which gives you a lot of freedom as an instructor.
You can browse openings on the site and view what the requirements are for becoming one of the company’s tutors.
Next, we have TutorMe. This is a site that provides you with flexible teaching opportunities.
You can decide when and how often you want to teach. And as long as you have a computer with internet access, you can tutor from anywhere.
The site covers more than 300 subjects, so you can easily find the one you want to teach.
You’ll need to offer basic information about yourself, like your education and work experience, when you apply.
If you’re approved as a tutor, TutorMe will start sending students your way. Students can message you directly, or the site can match them with you.
TutorMe pays $16 an hour, plus bonuses. You get paid each week, which is awesome.
Wyzant is another place to get work teaching online.
It connects experts with students who’re looking for one-to-one instruction. You can select your students and set a schedule that suits you.
What’s good about Wyzant is that you can set your rate. You can set up a direct deposit for quick and secure payment.
Wyzant works a little differently from the other places on the list. It’s not a place where you apply for jobs. Instead, it’s an online services marketplace in educational technology that matches tutors with students.
You can be one of the site’s private tutors in 250+ subjects and test prep. Students can schedule tutors in-person or online. So, if you want to tutor online, then you can.
You can list your tutoring services on Wyzant and build and manage your own tutoring business.
You can create a free online profile on there, that includes pictures, videos, student reviews and more. You can use your profile to showcase your qualifications and experience for potential students to review.
The site says that millions of new students and parents come to Wyzant to find a tutor, and tutors listed on the site have earned more than $64,000,000.
It says that new opportunities are posted all the time – meaning you can always find work!
All you have to do is create a profile, and students will contact you!
You set your own rates on the site, as I said above. According to Wyzant, its top tutors earn $50,000 a year! Wyzant charges your students, and deposits payment directly into your bank account.
You can tutor students online with Brainfuse Online Tutoring.
To tutor with the company, you must:

You can work as a part-time tutor with StudyPoint. You’ll use the site’s test prep curriculum to teach.
You tutor K-12 students one-on-one in your areas of expertise. With this site, when you are paired with a student, it’s a long-term assignment, rather than just a session or two.
You can schedule sessions that work for you and your students.
To be one of the site’s tutors, you’ll need to have:
- At least two years of teaching or tutoring experience.
- Either a composite 28 on the ACT or a 650 on SAT Math and SAT Verbal/CR.
- At least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
The site expects a minimum of six hours of available time for tutoring students. And, it also inquires as to whether you’re free on weeknights and weekends.
Although StudyPoint doesn’t say what it pays its tutors, according to Glassdoor, tutors with StudyPoint make $26 an hour.
11. Kaplan Test Prep
Kaplan Test Prep is another tutoring company that provides online gigs for teachers.
The site doesn’t offer much information for tutors. It does have a careers page though just for remote jobs that you can browse for openings.
Next on our list, we have Skooli. This site bills itself as a “dynamic online tutoring space.”
Skooli connects students with online tutors. The site says that it connects students with only the best online tutors, which is why its tutors are paid more than other online tutoring platforms.
You’ll just need a computer and a good internet connection to get started. You can set your own schedule. You can accept sessions when they suit you. Just login and be online when you’re free to accept instant sessions.
The site’s tutors are professional teachers and subject-area experts.
If you want to tutor on the site, you’ll need to have one or more of the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in related field.
- Government issued teaching license.
- Specialized instructor qualification (e.g. mathematics certifications)
You will also have to get a clear national level criminal reference check.
To get started, you’ll need to set your availability, double check your bio and profile picture, and make sure that your teachable subjects are listed on your profile.
Just go online to accept instant help requests and you’ll start making money tutoring students one-on-one in the Skooli Online Classroom.
Once you’re approved, you’ll need to be active and help new students. The site says that in order to make room for new active tutors and to ensure that students get the help they need, Skooli occasionally removes inactive tutors from the site.
Tutors earn $25 an hour.
Once you’re trained as a PreNow tutor, you will be able to schedule tutoring sessions with students.
To work with the site, you’ll need:
- At least two years of teaching or tutoring experience. You’ll also need either a composite 28 on the ACT or a 650 on the SAT Math and SAT Verbal/CR.
- At least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
- To be available on weeknights and weekends. The site expects a minimum of six hours of available time for tutoring.
The site doesn’t say what its tutors earn. But according to Glassdoor online tutors at PrepNow make $15 to $20 an hour.
Yup is a site that helps students with math.
So, if math is your forte you may want to give the site a try.
It’s an on-demand math tutoring app. With it, when a student needs help with math, they can take a picture of a problem and connect to an expert tutor for 1:1 support.
Tutoring takes place on the student’s phone. As the tutor, you work from your desktop via Yup’s web platform. Students and tutors use tools such as secure messaging and a virtual whiteboard to communicate.
You can work when you want to, which is great.
The application process includes a:
- Written application
- Math proficiency exam
- Teaching exam, to mimic a tutoring session.
Yup offers the following subjects:
- Early math
- Calculus AB
You’re paid monthly through direct deposit or PayPal. The site doesn’t say how much it pays its tutors.
Preply is a website where you can make money tutoring from home. According to the site, its most popular tutors earn up to $550 a week!
That’s pretty great.
It works in a different way to most of the other sites on this list.
It brings together tutors who’re looking to teach with students who’re looking to learn.
Basically, you use the site to find students to teach. Just apply for offers posted on Preply by students.
You create a profile on there, and this is visible in search results and brings new students to you.
You can get a custom domain to promote your services online too.
So, students can see your profile and choose to book lessons with you if they want to.
What’s great about Preply is that you can set your hourly rate and change it at any time.
You get your earnings sent directly from your Preply account to your bank card or account or another wallet of your choosing.
Now, there was something that I noticed on the site:
“Preply takes a 100% commission fee of your first lesson payment with every new student.”
That basically says that with each new student you have to teach the first lesson for free. That’s not really ideal.
That’s why Preply has appeared so low down on our list.
Maybe when you teach your first lesson on the site, it wants you to do it for free so it can gauge your skill level.
After that though, you should really be paid.
It says that for all subsequent lessons, commission varies from 33% to 18%, depending on the number of completed lesson hours with students.
Preply says the more tutoring you do on the site, the less commission you pay.
I’d guess the site wants to keep one tutor working with the same student, hence the 100% commission fee for the first lesson with a student. But still, it seems odd that they’d take a 100% commission fee on your first lesson with every student.
Where to Find More Tutoring Jobs from Home?
Above, I’ve given you lots of websites where you can find tutoring work. There are also a couple of job platforms that list gigs for tutors.
These are definitely worth checking out because you can find some good jobs on there.
Two places to search for gigs are:
How Much Does Online Tutoring Pay?
Above, I listed what each site pays, where those numbers were available. Each job pays differently, so giving an exact figure for how much money you’ll make is difficult.
According to figures from PayScale, online tutors make $19 an hour. Pay can range from $15 to $20 an hour according to reports. And to be honest, a work at home job that pays $15 per hour is a great start.
Obviously, some of the companies that I mentioned above pay higher rates than that, so pay really does vary.
