How to Get Free Gear from Fishing Companies
I’ve already given you a few examples of websites you can use to get free fishing gear and stores where you can get equipment at a low cost.
But there’s another way to save money on fishing equipment. And it’s simple!
Just contact companies directly.
Lots of companies give out free things to customers who ask.
A company may not mention freebies on its site, but that doesn’t mean it won’t provide free gear to customers who get in touch.
Think of your favorite companies and then get in touch to ask.
Now, most brands have a contact page on their site. This can usually be found at the top or bottom of the website. Some companies put their contact information on their about page.
Here are some examples of the contact pages of fishing brands to get you started:
You may get free fishing gear. If you don’t get free samples, a company may offer you coupons or promotional stickers instead. Of course, you may get nothing at all, but it doesn’t cost you anything to ask.
What to say to the company
But what do you say when you get in touch with your favorite fishing brand?
It’s really best to use a template that you can just tailor to whichever company you’re sending it to.
Using a template is a real time-saver.
To help you out, I’ve included a template you can use to contact brands for free fishing gear:
“Hi,
My name is [your name]
I just wanted to say that I’m a huge fan of your company. I love your fishing gear and I always use it on fishing trips. I even recommend your fishing gear to my friends and family.
As someone who’s been a loyal customer for years, I just wanted to say you’re doing great work!
I was also wondering if you have any samples or coupons you could send my way – I’d love to try more of your products, and would appreciate anything you could send me.
Thank you so much and have a great day!
[Your name]”
You can tailor this letter to each brand you contact. Writing something a little more personal for your favorite brands is a good idea because companies will probably be more likely to respond to it. So you could just add an extra line about your experience with the brand’s gear.
You can just paste this message into an email or the chatbox or contact form on the brand’s website.
If you’re getting in touch by phone, you can just say something similar to what’s in the template above.
Just compliment the company, be polite and not too demanding and you may be able to get some free fishing equipment or at least coupons that’ll save you some cash.
Free Fishing Gear on Craigslist
Can’t talk about finding free stuff near you without mentioning Craigslist. People give away tons of free stuff on Craigslist every single day, including fishing stuff.
Here’s how to easily find them in your city’s craigslist site:
Step 1: Visit Craigslist.org.
Step 2: Go to “for Sale” section and click on the “Free” tab.
Step 3: Enter “fishing” in the search bar and hit enter.
The site will pull up all the ads in the “Free” section that are giving away anything fishing related.
You can also get more specific and search for specific items like:
- hooks
- lines
- sinkers
- floats
- rods
- reels
- baits
- lures
- tackle boxes
- etc.
While local buying and selling apps have become increasingly popular, Craigslist is still one of the most popular sites for buying, selling and giving away stuff.
Bonus tip: Find Fishing Gear Giveaways Easily
Entering giveaways is a good way to get your hands on some free fishing equipment.
Thankfully, there are a lot of these giveaways out there with brands and retailers offering lots of freebies.
You just need to keep a lookout for these giveaways.
Keep an eye on social media
A good place to start is on a brand’s social media accounts. Think of your favorite fishing brands and then follow their accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
Brands often post their giveaways on social media, so by following their accounts, you can stay up to date with freebies.
That’s not the only way to find giveaways though.
You can also search for the word “#giveaway” on social media. You’ll then be able to see recent giveaways.
This is such an easy way to get free fishing gear.
When looking for giveaways and entering them, it’s always important to be aware of scammers.
In order to enter a giveaway, a legit company would NOT ask you to provide your credit card, debit card or bank information or any other sensitive data like your social security number.
So don’t give out any of your financial data or your SSN to enter a giveaway.
Look for Sweepstakes in Fishing and Outdoor Magazines
Another way to find freebies related to fishing is through outdoor and fishing related magazines.
Some of the top fishing magazines include:
- Field & Stream
- Saltwater Sportsman
- Outdoor Life
- Sport Fishing Magazine
- Bassmaster
Some of these magazines offer free subscription, but even those that don’t, usually have a website where you can access their content for free. All you have to do is keep an eye on them and check for sweepstakes and giveaways. It usually takes less than 60 seconds to enter a sweepstake. So you really don’t have much to lose but a minute of your time.
