1. Compete in Local Monopoly Tournaments

If you are just starting out, local Monopoly tournaments are a great way to get your feet in the door.

There are many small Monopoly tournaments being hosted all over the place by local communities, clubs, schools, etc.

Although some of them are just for charities (which I think is a great way to do your part to help others), there are many that do offer cash prizes you get to keep.

2. Participate in National Monopoly Championship Tournament

Now, if you want to make big money, national Monopoly tournaments are where you want to be.

National Monopoly Championship tournaments are held every 4 to 6 years or so. Although, for some reason, none have been held since 2015!

Unfortunately, there is no central authority or official website. So, you have to rely on other sources. Hasbro (yes, the giant toy company) sometimes includes tournament info on the official Hasbro Monopoly website.

You can also use sites like Monopoly Documentary and Monopoly Tournaments to find out about upcoming events as well as past events and winners.

Generally, to qualify, you have to pass an online multiple-choice quiz (with a score of 80% or more), a five-question essay test, as well as a two-game online tournament. At the end, 24 people are chosen to compete.

When the tournament starts, players are divided into a few groups where they have to play a standard Monopoly game for 90 minutes or so. When the buzzer goes off, the player with the most cash and assets advances to the next level, which is the final level where they compete for the prize.

And if you win the whole thing, you automatically progress to the World Monopoly Championship.

3. Compete in The World Championship Tournament

When it comes to playing Monopoly for real cash, this is the biggest competition.

To win the biggest prize, this is where you want to be. To compete in the World Championship, you have to win the national championship of your country.

Now, the amount of money you win here is the same as the US National Championship – $20,580 USD – but winning the World Championship has its benefits besides the bragging rights (advertising deals, etc.).

There are also gamming apps and websites where you can play Monopoly to win cash and prizes. Generally, with these platforms, you earn points for winning games, which you can redeem for cash and prizes like free gift cards.
