And no, stealing a Bible from a nightstand in a hotel room isn’t how!
The Bible is the most popular book ever published. According to the researcher and writer James Chapman’s list of the most read books in the world, in the last 50 years alone the Holy Bible has sold nearly 4 billion copies!
Whether you want to learn more about the Bible or strengthen your faith, you may want to read the Bible.
Even if you aren’t Christian, you may want to read the Bible just to learn about the Christian faith.
Whatever the reason, it’s good to know that there are many places where you can get a free Bible.

In today’s post, I’ll cover ways you can get a Bible for free in the mail and online too.

How to Get a Free Bible by Postal Mail
If you want a physical copy of the Bible, check out the places below. They’ll mail a Bible to you for free!
1. Bibles for America
This is a big site that also made our list of places that send you free books by mail. You can order a free study Bible from the site. The website says you can order for yourself only, and it does not fill orders made on behalf of others.
The Bible is totally free, including shipping, and all you need to do to get it is fill out the form on the website.
2. Bibles4Free.com
Bibles4Free.com will give you a Bible at no cost if you just complete the online form.
3. MyFreeBible.org
MyFreeBible.org will send you a Bible in the mail. Just fill out the form on the website.
It currently only offers the New Testament though. The site says requests are limited to one Bible per person and you can only make one request. It takes up to 6 to 8 weeks to receive your Bible.
4. The U.S. Bible Society
Just fill out a form and the U.S. Bible Society will mail a free Bible to you.

5. Check with your local Christian church
Some local churches will give Bibles away for free to those who ask. This could be a pocket-sized version or a larger study type Bible. Find a church near you, if you don’t already belong to one, and when you attend, ask if they have a Bible that you could take with you.
6. The city library
Your local library may have a Bible for you to use. You won’t necessarily be able to keep this Bible. But you can read it for free. They’ll usually have multiple copies, including study Bibles or versions or translations that you might not have read before. In some cases, they may have free copies available that you can keep. Just call your local library to ask.

7. Ask a friend or family member
Do you have a friend or family member who is Christian? If so, then they may have a copy of the Bible that they’d be willing to give to you. All you need to do is ask.
8. FreeBibles.net
Another website where you can request a free Bible is FreeBibles.net. It sends Bibles to prisons, nursing homes, and to those who are homeless.
9. Family Broadcasting Corporation’s Spread the Word program
This program has distributed more than 1 million Bibles across countries like Iran, Egypt, Colombia, Austria, Pakistan, and Malaysia since it’s launch in 2000.
Currently, it doesn’t send Bibles to people who live in the United States. But it stills sends them to other countries. So if you live outside of the United States, you can request your free Bible.
10. BibleSenders.org
BibleSenders.org says that it has a mission to send one free Bible to anyone who asks, anywhere in the world. But that it isn’t able to meet the 80,000 plus requests that it gets each month. So, they can’t respond to every request. Still though, you can get in touch and BibleSenders.org will do it’s best to send you a free Bible.
11. The Gideons International
The Gideons International is an evangelical organization that distributes free copies of the Bible to hotels and many other places. You’ll usually find a Bible from the organization in the nightstand in your hotel room.
It also distributes Bibles to:
- Police, fire, and medical personnel
- Prisoners
- Military personnel
- Students in the fifth grade and above
- Motels
- Hospitals
- Convalescent homes
- Medical offices
- Domestic violence shelters
- Prisons
- Jails
You won’t get a free Bible in the mail from the organization, but you can look out for them next time you stay at a hotel or at one of the other places mentioned above.
Obviously, they are not (nor are we) suggesting that you take (steal) the Good Book from a hotel or other places. They put it there so travelers can read it while they stay at the hotel. That said, Gideons says they don’t mind people taking the Bibles since they replace them often. They actually have a saying that goes “take the Bible, not the towels“!
12. Cedar Grove Baptist Church
Get a free KJV Bible from the Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Just complete the online form to get your Bible in the mail.

How to Get a Free Bible Online (Download, Print, PDF)
There are many ways you can get a free online copy of the Bible. You could even print this out if you have a printer or you can read the Bible on the go from your phone or on your PC at home.
Here’s where you can get a free Bible online.
13. The Bible App
With more than 2.7 million reviews on the Google Play Store, The Bible App is incredibly popular. It offers more than 1,400 Bible versions for free! And Bibles are available in hundreds of languages. There are even offline Bibles and audio Bibles available.
14. The Gideons International App
I mentioned The Gideons International organization above. Not only does it distribute free Bibles to hotels, but it also has an app you can download to read the Bible right from your phone!
15. Bible.com
You can get a free Bible for your phone, tablet, or computer from Bible.com. The best part is that you can choose from more than 1,200 Bible versions in more than 900 languages. Many are available as audio Bibles.
The site also offers a free app that you can use to read the Bible right from your phone.
16. Bible Gateway
Learn more about God and Jesus Christ through the Bible Gateway. The Bible Gateway is a searchable online Bible with more than 200 versions and 70 languages that you can read for free!
It offers a library of audio Bibles too! There’s even an app available.
17. Bible Study Tools
If you’re looking to study the Holy Scripture, then visit Bible Study Tools. It’s a website where you can read and study the Word of God for free. There are lots of different versions of the Good Book available for free as well.
18. The Holy Catholic Bible
The Holy Catholic Bible is an app that you can use to read the Catholic Bible for free.
19. Blue Letter Bible
Blue Letter Bible allows you to search the book and it’s a great website for Bible study.
20. Biblica.com
Biblica (The International Bible Society) has helped millions of people to read the Bible for more than 200 years. The website offers lots of resources for those looking to learn more about scripture. It even has a section where the whole book is arranged into 365 daily readings.
21. Study Light
Study Light offers free online Bible study tools you can use to enhance your study.
You can search the Bible too, which is really useful! It includes 115 commentaries, 28 dictionaries and 8 encyclopedias as well.
22. AudioTreasure
AudioTreasure provides free audiobook version of Bibles in lots of different languages that you can listen to online and download. Some of these audio Bibles can be copied for free and given to others as well. This is ideal if you want to listen to the Bible on your commute to work!
23. The Online Bible
The Online Bible offers free Bible software for windows that you can download and use on your computer. There are multiple translations available, as well as commentaries, books, and more to help you in studying the scripture.
24. Bible App by Olive Tree
Bible App by Olive Tree is an app from HarperCollins Christian Publishing. With it, you can read the Bible for free. It includes a few different versions of the Bible, such as the NIV Bible and the ESV Bible.
Bibles are available in lots of languages like Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, French and more. There are also translations available for an in-app purchase.
25. Bible.is app
With the Bible.is app, you can access the Bible in 1,300 languages. The best part is that there are audio and video Bibles available too! It’s a popular app with more than 150,000 reviews on the Google Play Store.

We desperately need your help. please hear me. we have ran out of bibles to give to our community and surrounding towns. we have ran out of funds due to the covid issues and i have ran out of personal money to fund our ministry. i know God had me contact you for a reason, its only a prayer that maybe you can help in any way. anything would be a blessing. we know when we have bibles on our table to give that god leads those needing the word to us. to hear the word and lord willing to turn their lives to him. i cant give up and i refuse to give up. We normally get a few bibles donated at a time from individuals, churches, purchase a few from craigslist or marketplace, but it has truly been a struggle to keep this up. We dont have any big sponsors or donors to keep us stocked up on the word of God, we just pray and find a way. We make it happen. No bible goes ungiven, no bible goes without ministry. People need to understand they dont need to prepare to come to God, they need to surrender where they are at right now in their lives. Life is a test and he provides the answers to the test, but we have no answers to give for them to take with them. Im asking for your help. New or used, it doesn’t matter, we’re so grateful. One bible will help lead one, amen. A few bibles will help lead a few, amen. anything is a blessing. This is not spam or junk mail, this is from my heart in desperation for my community and the surrounding communities who are heavy with homeless and illegal immigrants who need to know the gospel. I ask you please, anything you can do for us would truly be a blessing.

Actually every one of the places claiming to give a free hard copy bible away has excuses for why they can’t do that or you don’t qualify. These seem like fake christians who just want to give the impression they are christian.

Wilson, we (MoneyPantry) don’t do that. We just share the name and contact info of the companies that send you free Bible and other Church freebies. You will have to visit their website and use their contact form (which we linked to in the post) to contact them directly. Hope this helps.
There’s a new organization that sends out really nice leather ESV bibles with a Bible highlighter and some other stuff too completely for free. They just started in 2023, but they just have you fill out an online form with your name, email, and address and they send it to you for free. They even emailed the tracking info and everything too! Their link is MadeItKnown.com/needabible. If you’re needing a Bible I’d look into them!
