I personally love Amazon!
Th first place I look when I need to buy something is Amazon. And almost always, I can almost save on anything I buy there. I get the needed item on Amazon for far less than other retailers, whether online or offline.
If you like getting paid for surveys, and are going to join only one site, I would recommend you choose Ipsos-iSay. Ipsos is the most fun and well-paying panel. Give it a try to see how you like it. It is free anyway!
That said, if you are a frequent shopper on Amazon, you know it can get expensive rather quickly. Thankfully, there are ways to reduce your shopping cost and save big on any purchases made on Amazon.com.
I have been using most of the methods mentioned below for years, and honestly, I am sure I have saved thousands of dollars over the years by using these tips.
1. Go Through eBates
eBates is a shopping site that allows you to get coupons for various stores, but it also helps you to earn money back on purchases that you make.
Those who shop on Amazon with an eBates account can make between 3% to 8% cash back on what they purchase. Plus, those who sign up now may be eligible for a free $10 Gift Card.
There are also other great cash back shopping sites, but eBates seems to be the highest paying one when it comes to Amazon shopping.
You can earn free Amazon gift cards by using rewards programs like MintVine and SwagBuks.
And it is fairly easy to rack up points. For example, on SwagBucks, a $5 Amazon gift card takes 450 points. You earn that many points by doing a dozen or so high paying surveys and offers. It is super easy and it does work!
You can use these gifts cards for Amazon purchases, and with enough points, you could actually shop for free.
3. Take Advantage of Camel, Camel, Camel
The prices that are seen on Amazon vary greatly, and many times these prices can change throughout the day. Why the price drops or increases is unknown. This is why I use camel, camel, camel to track the prices of products that I wish to purchase through Amazon.
You can utilize the price history tool to find the lowest price that you are willing to pay, then sign up for email alerts when the price gets to the specified target price. Through using camel, camel, camel you ensure that you get the best price for the products you are interested in.
4. Ask Amazon to Drop the Price
There is a lower price feature on Amazon, that lets you tell them about a lower price that you found elsewhere, and since Amazon likes to compete with pricing, this can get you a lower price.
In order to do this, find the product you intend to purchase, then price check this on other sites. When you find this, go back to the Amazon page and scroll until you see “Product Details”. At the end of this section is the “lower price” feature, and simply tell Amazon about the price you found.
Try Swagbucks, the famous rewards program that pays you for watching videos, taking surveys, shopping and more.
This does not automatically mean you will get the lower price. But if you use camel, camel, camel you can be notified if Amazon does drop their price.
5. Save Items for Later
The “Save for Later” button is a great way to avoid buying things on impulse. This button allows you to save items that you may be interested in, so you can keep an eye on these or simply have more time to decide if this is something you want or not.
This is also a great way to track changes in the prices of items you are thinking of buying. When you visit your cart, Amazon gives you an alert at the top of the screen telling you if any prices increased or decreased since the last time you viewed your cart.
This feature has helped me save on over a dozen or so items. Most recently I was able to save $25 on a Dewalt Drill. All I had to do was to put the item in my cart, then click the “save for later” button. A few days later, Amazon alerted me of the price drop.
Now, this may not work for stuff you need right away, but if you are not in a hurry, this is great.
Pro Tip: Start your Christmas shopping now. Put gifts you are going to buy for friends and relatives into your cart, then save them for later. Whenever price on any of them drops, snatch them. You have a few months til Christmas, so this will work perfectly, potentially saving you hundreds or even thousands, depending your spending budget.
6. Sign up for Amazon Student
For students, Amazon Student may be a great choice if you love getting discounts.
You will have to prove that you are a student.
The price is $39 per year, but you have to sign up for this for 4 years. With this price, you are getting 50% off of the Prime price.
Most perks are the same as Amazon Prime, except you do not get movie or TV shows streamed, and the free two day shipping is only good for the first 6 months.
7. Use the Amazon Filler Item Finder to Get Free Shipping
For those who are not members of Amazon Prime, you have to pay shipping prices on anything that you purchase on Amazon that totals under $35.
If you want to avoid paying for shipping, then utilize the Amazon Filler Item Finder to find an item that will boost you over the minimum free shipping price.
I needed $5 to qualify for free shipping, so I used the Amazon Filler Item Finder for this amount. The results were 10 different items I could buy for that price, that I would use at one point or another. So, I added these to my cart in order to get free shipping.
You should not be buying products that you do not need, but if you are going to pay for shipping, chances are you could find something to hit the free shipping mark that will be useful.
8. Become an Amazon Prime Member
Amazon Prime gives free 2 day shipping to those who are members. It costs $79 per year.
It also allows you to borrow one eBook for free every month and gives you the capabilities to stream movies and TV shows.
You can split the price of the membership with others, but only the main member gets the perks of watching television shows and movies. But, others can still get the benefit of free shipping.
9. Become an Amazon Mom Member
This program is basically the same as Amazon Prime with the addition of getting 20% off of diapers and wipes.
The good news is that you do not have to be a mom in order to join.
You still get free two day shipping, streaming of movies and TV shows, and borrowing a free Kindle book each month.
10. Keep an Eye on Special Deals
On Amazon, you can find discounts each day if you know where to look, making your shopping spree like Black Friday, everyday.
There are third-party sellers and other individuals who sell used items on the site. These are marked as “used” items, though some of these are often brand new, but sold at a huge discount. Some of these items are eligible for Prime or Super Saver shipping. With this being said, also watch for cheap products that are going to cost more to ship than what you are paying on the product.
Deal of the Day
Amazon offers a new deal every day of the week. You simply need to click “Today’s Deal”, which is located next to the logo at the top of the page. The current deal as I write this is 33% Off on Aquasana Water Bottles, Sleeves and Filtration Systems.
These are located on the Deal of the Day page. There are only a limited number of these items, and they are only available for a couple of hours. A few examples of these deals include 76% off on a Black Diamond Bracelet in Sterling, 56% off Energizer Pro 3 LED Headlamp, and 72% off Luciano Natazzi Men’s Narrow Stripe Suit.
Some of the best deals on new items can be found via Amazon Outlet. But it can be hard to find, so here is a direct link to it, in order to start getting great deals.
I hope you find these money saving tips helpful. Give them a try and see how much you can save when shopping on Amazon.
