If you are looking for an easy way to earn some extra cash without getting a second job or changing your normal routine, look no further than your car!
I have shared many ideas on how to make money with your car, in the past.
And today, I am going to talk about using your car as a ride sharing tool to earn extra money using a service like Zimride that makes renting your car seat to commuters who are going to the same destination, easy and safe.
What Is Zimride?
Zimride is a rideshare and carpooling services that allows you to connect with other commuters who are headed to your workplace, or surrounding areas and locations.
It is a location-based service for the time being, and specifically, they serve:
- New York
- Los Angeles
- Washington D.C.
- San Francisco
- Lake Tahoe
They might service the area around you if you live in a university town (you can find more information on their website.)
If you’re the driver of your car, you can use Zimride to find people near you who are headed in the same direction. These people will in turn pay you for a spot in your car, to save them on commuting costs, and in the best case scenario you’ll also get someone who is pleasant to take a drive with!
On the opposite side of the spectrum, you can use this service if you need to find someone to hitch a ride to work with, and you don’t mind kicking them a little bit of money for the travel.
It doesn’t have to be work, of course, you can find a one-time ride to the airport this way, too.
How Much Can I Make?
Prices are not flat, or set in stone.
They are agreed upon by the driver and the passenger beforehand.
So basically, you set the price you are willing to rent your car seat for.
It can be pretty nice, too: at time of writing, there were rates of New York to Orlando for $115, Vegas to San Francisco for $60, even a ride to Dallas from Reno can be as low as $175!
For the passenger, that’s some seriously cheap travel right there, lower than the cost of driving their yourself.
At the same time, as the driver, you earn a decent amount of money that otherwise you wouldn’t have.
You can also offer a ride cross-state. People are going from Anaheim to Santa Clara for $39, which is definitely far, far less than the cost of the gas between those two places.
You might not even be paying that little in gas if you drove a hybrid!
Payments are handled before the event of travel itself, to avoid any problem or awkward passing of money.
So if you are the driver, you get your money beforehand.
At that point, all you have to do is get along with someone for the length of the journey, agree on where to stop and eat, etc. It might even be pretty fun if you get someone you sync up with!
In today’s world, we’re seeing more peer-to-peer services like this springing up.
People would often rather deal with each other than with a transportation service which is expecting to make enough money to pay administrative costs, as well as employee salaries and wear-and-tear costs.
Zimride is a useful service that allows you as a driver to earn some serious money by renting your car seat to a traveler going to the same destination as you are.
